Peacock, the streaming platform owned by NBCUniversal, has announced its upcoming series titled “Lonely Hearts Club,” a darkly comedic true crime thriller based on an episode of Ashley Flowers’ popular podcast “Crime Junkie.” The show is set to star Aidy Bryant, who will also serve as a writer and executive producer alongside Rob Klein.

“Lonely Hearts Club” is based on the true story of a lonely woman who falls for a charming con man in the late 1940s. Together, they form an unlikely partnership that ends in lies, murder, and the electric chair. The series promises to be a gripping exploration of a notorious true crime case, with a mix of humor and suspense.

Ari Aster, the acclaimed director of horror films like “Hereditary” and “Midsommar,” will executive produce the series. Lars Knudsen and Emily Hildner will also serve as executive producers under their production company, Square Peg. The show will be produced by Universal Television, a division of Universal Studio Group.

Aidy Bryant, known for her work on “Saturday Night Live” and “Shrill,” is excited to take on this new challenge. “I’m thrilled to be partnering with Peacock and Universal Studio Group to bring ‘Lonely Hearts Club’ to life,” she said in a statement. “This is a gripping story that’s both darkly funny and deeply disturbing, and I can’t wait to dive into the world of true crime and explore the complexities of these characters.”

Flowers, the creator of the Crime Junkie podcast, is also excited to see her work adapted for the screen. “I’m thrilled to be working with such a talented team to bring this story to life,” she said. “I know that Aidy Bryant and the rest of the cast and crew will do an amazing job of bringing these complex characters to the screen.”

“Lonely Hearts Club” is set to begin production soon, with no official release date announced yet. With an all-star cast and crew and a gripping true crime story at its core, the series is sure to be a must-watch for fans of the genre.
