To honour the legacy of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, the architect of the Indian Constitution and a champion of social justice, the Assam unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has announced an elaborate series of events to mark Ambedkar Jayanti. The celebrations will span from April 13 to April 25 across all districts of the state.

This extended commemoration aims not only to pay tribute to Dr. Ambedkar’s life and contributions but also to raise awareness about his ideals of equality, empowerment, and constitutional rights. It forms part of the BJP’s broader national campaign to connect with various social groups and reinforce its commitment to the principles laid out by Ambedkar.

Celebrating Ambedkar’s Vision

Announcing the initiative, state BJP leaders emphasized that the celebration is not just a political move but a sincere recognition of Ambedkar’s enduring influence on Indian society. The party will organize a range of programs including cultural events, seminars, cleanliness drives, rallies, and discussions focused on Ambedkar’s teachings and his role in shaping modern India.

Party leaders stated that these celebrations will also serve as a platform to connect with Dalit and marginalized communities across Assam and showcase the government’s efforts toward inclusive development and social upliftment.

“Babasaheb Ambedkar envisioned an India where every citizen has equal rights, dignity, and opportunities. We want to reaffirm our commitment to his vision and involve the youth and citizens of Assam in understanding the values of our Constitution,” said a senior BJP leader from the state unit.

District-Wise Programs and Community Engagement

To ensure maximum outreach, the BJP has instructed all its district units to organize special events and public gatherings. In rural as well as urban areas, the party will host “Samvidhan Samvaads” — public meetings that focus on the significance of the Constitution and Ambedkar’s contributions to it.

Educational institutions will be engaged to organize essay competitions, debates, and quiz contests on Ambedkar’s life and the Indian Constitution. Cultural performances, including street plays and songs based on themes of social justice and equality, will also be featured as part of the celebrations.

Additionally, senior BJP leaders and elected representatives are scheduled to visit Ambedkar memorials and statues to offer floral tributes and deliver speeches on his ideals. Special attention is being given to areas with large Scheduled Caste populations to reinforce outreach efforts.

Focus on Social Welfare and Awareness

In line with Ambedkar’s vision of an egalitarian society, the BJP plans to launch social welfare activities during the celebration period. These will include health camps, sanitation drives under the Swachh Bharat Mission, and awareness campaigns about government schemes aimed at education, employment, and welfare of economically weaker sections.

The party will also distribute informative booklets and leaflets highlighting Ambedkar’s life, his fight against untouchability, and his role in the framing of the Constitution. The aim is to educate the younger generation and bring Ambedkar’s philosophy closer to the common people.

The initiative is being coordinated by the BJP’s Scheduled Caste Morcha and other affiliated wings, who have been actively mobilizing volunteers and preparing logistical support for the events across all districts.

Political and Social Significance

While the celebrations are rooted in paying homage to a towering national figure, the move also carries political significance. With the Lok Sabha elections on the horizon, the BJP is looking to consolidate its support among Dalit communities and counter opposition narratives that accuse the party of being indifferent to social justice issues.

The Assam BJP has increasingly focused on broadening its social base, and Ambedkar Jayanti offers a meaningful opportunity to showcase its inclusive approach and developmental agenda. The party leadership believes that engaging with Ambedkar’s legacy strengthens its connection with historically underrepresented communities and promotes unity and awareness.

Conclusion

The Assam BJP’s decision to celebrate Ambedkar Jayanti with a fortnight-long series of events reflects both a tribute to Dr. B.R. Ambedkar and a strategic outreach to the broader public. By bringing Ambedkar’s ideals into the spotlight through cultural, educational, and social programs, the party seeks to reinforce the importance of justice, equality, and constitutional values in today’s society. As the celebrations unfold across the state, they are likely to energize the grassroots and foster deeper engagement with one of India’s most revered reformers.
