The Board of Secondary Education, Assam (SEBA), declared the High School Leaving Certificate (HSLC) examination results for 2024, bringing moments of joy, pride, and celebration across the state. This year, Anurag Doloi from Pragya Academy Senior Secondary School in Jorhat emerged as the state topper, scoring an impressive 593 out of 600 marks.

The results, released after weeks of anticipation, showcased the hard work and perseverance of students who appeared for the Class 10 board exams held between February 16 and March 4, 2024. A total of 419,078 students had registered for the examination, and 317,317 of them successfully cleared it, resulting in an overall pass percentage of 75.70%.

The top rank this year was claimed by Anurag Doloi, whose remarkable score has not only brought honor to his school and family but has also inspired thousands of students across Assam.   5. Devashree Kashyap – Ramanujan Senior Secondary School, Nagaon – 588 marks

Several other students followed closely, with scores above 580, placing them among the top achievers of the state.

District Performance

Among the districts, Chirang stood out by recording the highest pass percentage at 91.2%, followed by Nalbari at 88.1%, and Baksa at 86.9%. These figures point to a significant improvement in academic standards and access to quality education in these regions. At the other end of the spectrum, Udalguri registered the lowest pass percentage at 60.9%, indicating the need for targeted interventions and educational support.

Gender and Category Insights

In terms of gender-wise performance, male candidates registered a pass percentage of 77.3%, while their female counterparts achieved a slightly lower rate at 74.4%. Notably, transgender candidates also appeared for the exam, with a commendable 80% pass rate, highlighting progress toward inclusive education.

Academic excellence was evident in the number of students scoring top grades. This year, 6,392 students were awarded distinction marks (85% and above), while 20,552 received star marks (75% to 84.99%). These figures reflect the growing academic competitiveness and the increasing emphasis on excellence across Assam’s schools.

Education officials, school principals, and district authorities have lauded the performance of the students, especially those from rural backgrounds who overcame several odds to emerge as top scorers.
