The Bodo student community, Dipen Boro has been re-elected as the Central President of the All Bodo Students Union (ABSU) for a third consecutive term. The announcement was made during the Extended Delegate Sitting of the organization, held at Nileswar Brahma Auditorium, Bodoland University, on Tuesday.

Strong Mandate from Delegates

Dipen Boro’s re-election reflects the continued confidence and trust placed in his leadership by ABSU delegates. Members from various district units and affiliated committees participated in the session and endorsed his leadership for another term.

In his address following the announcement, Boro thanked the gathering for their unwavering support and reaffirmed ABSU’s commitment to championing education, indigenous rights, and socio-political issues concerning the Bodo community.

“I accept this responsibility with humility and determination. We have achieved a lot, but there is more to be done to uplift the Bodo youth and protect our identity,” he said.

Focus on Bodo Identity, Education, and Autonomy

During his previous terms, Dipen Boro has been instrumental in advocating for quality education, implementation of Bodo language policies, and pushing for holistic development in Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR).

His leadership played a critical role during the historic Bodo Accord of 2020, and he continues to emphasize the importance of maintaining peace, unity, and cultural preservation.

Boro reiterated that ABSU would persist in demanding the full implementation of the Bodo Accord, proper distribution of resources, and political inclusion of Bodo people across Assam.

Calls for Youth Empowerment and Government Accountability

Boro stressed the need for government accountability in executing schemes aimed at tribal welfare. He also emphasized the role of youth empowerment, education, and skill development as tools for economic independence and long-term peace in the region.

“The future of Bodo youth depends on the opportunities we create today. ABSU will continue to push for quality education, scholarships, and job opportunities for students,” Boro noted.

Organizational Goals Ahead

Looking ahead, the newly extended executive body under Boro’s leadership is expected to focus on several key objectives:

  • Ensuring the implementation of the Bodo language as a medium of instruction at all primary levels within BTR.
  • Monitoring the progress of the Bodo Peace Accord commitments made by the central and state governments.
  • Enhancing cooperation with student bodies from other indigenous groups across Assam to forge unity among tribal communities.
  • Launching campaigns against drug abuse and unemployment among youth in Bodo-majority regions.

Support From Delegates and Leaders

Leaders from various regional student organizations and alumni of ABSU welcomed Boro’s re-election. They praised his inclusive vision and proactive stance on key issues.

Dr. Ritu Basumatary, a former ABSU executive member and now an academic at Bodoland University, said:

“Dipen Boro has always stood with the people, and his work speaks for itself. His re-election is a win for every student who dreams of a better BTR.”
