Arijit Singh was born on 25 April 1987 in Murshidabad, West Bengal. His father Kakkar Singh was a Sikh, while mother Aditi was Bengali. Since childhood, Arijit was inclined towards music. He started taking music lessons from a very young age.
Faced rejection in reality show
Arijit Singh was first seen in the singing reality show ‘Fame Gurukul’ in the year 2005. 18-year-old Arjit got a lot of love from the people in this show. He even won the hearts of the judges – Javed Akhtar, KK and Shankar Mahadevan, but had to face rejection in the top 5 of the show. Arjit had to go out of the show after reaching the sixth position due to less votes. Qazi Tauqeer and Rooprekha Banerjee became the winners of ‘Fame Gurukul’.
Canned song
Arjit Singh may not have become the winner of ‘Fame Gurukul’, but his beautiful voice caught the attention of director Sanjay Leela Bhansali. He promised to work with Arjit. Arijit lent his voice to the song ‘Yun Shabanmi’ from Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Saawariya, but his version was never released.
