Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma launched the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) campaign for the upcoming panchayat elections by addressing a large crowd at Rongjuli Sarapara field under the Dudhnai Assembly Constituency in Goalpara district. The event, held on April 30, was part of the party’s ‘Vijay Sankalp’ rally series and saw an enthusiastic gathering of supporters, party workers, and local residents.

Sarma energized the crowd with strong assertions of BJP’s development work and promised a host of new subsidies to strengthen the rural economy. He said the government would continue delivering people-centric schemes aimed at improving the lives of farmers, women, and youth in Assam’s hinterlands.

He accused opposition parties of ignoring rural Assam for decades and pledged that the BJP would ensure balanced growth and welfare. In his speech, Sarma underlined his government’s commitment to rural infrastructure, healthcare, and education. He said the forthcoming panchayat elections would serve as a test of public trust and a mandate for accelerating grassroots development.

The Chief Minister announced plans to expand agricultural subsidies, provide interest-free loans to self-help groups, and strengthen social welfare coverage under key state schemes. He also stated that the government would roll out a rural entrepreneurship initiative to support small businesses and local enterprises in the region.

Sarma highlighted how Assam has changed under the BJP’s leadership. He mentioned the progress made in sectors such as road construction, digital connectivity, irrigation, and women’s welfare. He also acknowledged the work of panchayat members and called on voters to elect representatives who align with the state’s development goals.

BJP’s local leadership from Goalpara district accompanied the Chief Minister on stage, voicing their support for his initiatives. They urged the people of the district to give the party a decisive mandate in the panchayat elections to maintain momentum in development works.

The rally site witnessed high security and festive visuals with saffron flags, traditional music, and women wearing Assamese attire joining the procession. Many attendees expressed optimism about the schemes announced and showed willingness to support BJP’s rural outreach.

Sarma took the opportunity to emphasize how law and order had improved in the state. He claimed that peace and stability had created a favorable environment for investment and job creation even in backward districts like Goalpara. He also assured that the state government would take strong measures against corruption and bureaucratic delays that hinder rural development.

He stressed the importance of strengthening panchayati raj institutions, saying that village-level governance formed the foundation of democracy. Dr. Sarma encouraged young voters to take part in the upcoming elections and highlighted the growing involvement of women in local politics.

As the rally concluded, party supporters raised slogans backing BJP’s leadership and echoed the Chief Minister’s call for a clean sweep in the panchayat elections. Local BJP leaders later distributed campaign materials and scheduled follow-up meetings to spread the message across interior villages.

In the backdrop of his visit, Goalpara district officials ensured arrangements for crowd management and traffic flow. Many shops and markets in the region remained closed during the afternoon hours as people gathered to attend the rally.

The rally marked the formal beginning of BJP’s rural campaign push in western Assam. Dr. Sarma said he would continue visiting key districts in the coming days to engage with voters and address grassroots concerns. His campaign focus on subsidies and social welfare is expected to be central to BJP’s panchayat strategy across the state.

Himanta Biswa Sarma also announced that the state government would increase the distribution of free tractors and irrigation pumps under the Chief Minister Samagra Gramya Unnayan Yojana (CMSGUY). He said these measures would help small and marginal farmers boost productivity and reduce dependence on monsoon rains. The move aims to make agriculture more sustainable and profitable in rural belts like Goalpara.

He further declared that every household in rural Goalpara would receive electricity and tap water connections under state and centrally sponsored schemes within the next financial year. He urged local panchayats to coordinate with departments to ensure timely implementation. He added that the government was prioritizing connectivity, sanitation, and education in remote areas to bridge the rural-urban development gap.

Dr. Sarma also promised that construction of model schools and health sub-centers would begin in several underdeveloped blocks in the district. He said the upcoming budget would allocate dedicated funds for infrastructure upgrades in Goalpara’s rural landscape. He assured that no village would be left behind in Assam’s development journey.

He warned opposition parties against spreading false narratives about government welfare schemes. He claimed that political rivals were nervous about BJP’s rising popularity in rural Assam and accused them of misleading voters with unfulfilled promises. He called on voters to choose leaders who delivered results, not empty rhetoric.

The Chief Minister also met with local BJP functionaries after the rally to discuss campaign strategies and grassroots challenges. He instructed party workers to maintain discipline and connect with every household to explain the benefits of BJP’s governance. He emphasized that the panchayat polls were critical to securing the party’s mission of a ‘Viksit Assam’ (Developed Assam) by 2026.
