The Maharashtra government has appointed senior Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer Manoj Saunik as the new Chief Secretary of the state. Saunik, who is currently serving as Additional Chief Secretary (Finance), will take over from Manu Kumar Shrivastav, who is retiring on April 30.

The appointment of Saunik was confirmed through a letter issued by Nitin Gadre, Additional Chief Secretary (Services) in the General Administration Department (GAD). According to the letter, Saunik will continue to hold charge of the finance department even after taking over as the new Chief Secretary.

Manoj Saunik is a highly experienced IAS officer with over three decades of experience in various administrative roles. He has held several key positions in the Maharashtra government, including the Managing Director of Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL), the Principal Secretary of the Public Works Department, and the Managing Director of Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation.

Saunik’s appointment as the new Chief Secretary comes at a time when the state is facing several challenges, including the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the implementation of various infrastructure projects, and the management of the state’s finances. As an experienced bureaucrat with a strong track record, Saunik is expected to bring stability and efficiency to the state administration.

Meanwhile, Manu Kumar Shrivastav, the outgoing Chief Secretary, will take over as the State Commissioner (Right to Services) after his retirement. The appointment was confirmed through a notification issued by Sujata Saunik, Additional Chief Secretary (GAD) and wife of Manoj Saunik. Shrivastav will hold the post of State Commissioner (Right to Services) for five years or until he reaches the age of 65, whichever is earlier.

Overall, the appointment of Manoj Saunik as the new Chief Secretary of Maharashtra is expected to bring a fresh perspective to the state administration and ensure that the government’s policies and programs are implemented effectively. His vast experience and expertise will be crucial in addressing the challenges faced by the state and steering it towards a brighter future.
