Motilal Oswal Financial Services, a distinguished broking and financial services company in India, introduces a distinctive ‘Switch-Off’ from Work Policy, aiming to promote a healthy work-life balance among its employees.

Motilal Oswal: Innovative Work-Life Balance Initiative

Motilal Oswal Financial Services has taken a pioneering step to introduce the “Switch-Off” from Work Policy, allowing employees to disconnect from work responsibilities and emails outside their fixed shift hours. This initiative, the first of its kind in corporate India, seeks to benefit around 9,500 employees of the 11,000 employed by the company. The policy is applicable across all levels, from senior managers to lower-tier staff, emphasizing the company’s commitment to nurturing employee wellness.

Enforcement of Policy and Restrictions

To ensure adherence to the policy, Motilal Oswal will terminate email server access for all employees after a 45-minute grace period following their shift completion. Employees will be required to wrap up their day’s work during this duration. Furthermore, any employees extending beyond their shift, including the grace period, will be mandated to leave the office premises.

Emphasizing Employee Well-being

Group Managing Director and CEO of Motilal Oswal, Mr. Oswal, underscored the policy’s intent, focusing not on hours worked but on employees’ peace of mind, contentment, and productivity. Prioritizing the well-being of the workforce, the policy aims to grant employees the freedom to maintain a work-life balance.

Phased Implementation and Future Prospects

In its next phase, the company plans to extend the policy by restricting access to business-specific applications during the specified “switch-off” hours. The implementation will be tailored to different roles and decided in consultation with respective business teams. Furthermore, this policy was established after in-depth discussions and agreements with CEOs and department heads, ensuring the participation and understanding of top management.

HR Support and Monitoring

Motilal Oswal’s HR teams are actively working to sensitize managers about the policy and establish a system to monitor its efficacy. They have encouraged employees and management to raise any concerns or escalations regarding the policy’s implementation.

This innovative policy from Motilal Oswal Financial Services is a remarkable example and a commendable step towards ensuring the well-being and work-life balance of employees in the corporate world.
