For travelers, planning to explore North Sikkim, the state authorities have confirmed that roads leading to popular destinations like Lachung, Lachen, Yumthang, and Zero Point will remain open from April 19 to 25, 2025. This announcement comes as a relief to many, dispelling earlier rumors about potential road closures during this period.
Travel Advisory and Traffic Regulations
The Superintendent of Police for Mangan District issued an official notice on April 15, clarifying that there will be no road closures in North Sikkim during the specified dates. However, the advisory highlighted that the recent closure of the Toong-Naga road has led to increased traffic on the Dickchu-Sankalang-Shipgyer-Chungthang route, which is now the primary access point to these destinations.
To manage the heavy tourist influx and ensure safety, the following vehicular movement regulations have been put in place:
- Phidang–Sankalang–Chungthang Route: Heavy vehicles are permitted to travel from 9:00 PM to 1:00 AM the next day.
- Chungthang–Sankalang–Phidang Route: Movement allowed from 5:00 AM to 11:00 AM.
- Phidang Bridge: A load limit of 18 tons (gross weight) is enforced.
- Narrow Stretches: No stopping is allowed for heavy vehicles to prevent congestion.
Violations of these regulations will result in strict legal actions. Emergency service vehicles are exempted from these rules.
Travel Tips for Tourists
