The Delhi government’s Prisons department has suspended eight staff members of Tihar Jail in connection with the brutal stabbing of gangster Tillu Tajpuriya, which resulted in his death. The incident occurred early on Tuesday when four members of the rival Gogi gang attacked Tajpuriya, stabbing him 92 times.
Following the incident, a departmental inquiry was conducted, and lapses were found on the part of nine staff members. As a result, seven members, including three assistant superintendents and four warders, were suspended. The Tamil Nadu Special Police, which provides security on the jail premises, has also agreed to take departmental action against their personnel.
Tihar Jail Director-General Sanjay Beniwal met with Lt Governor VK Saxena and presented a detailed report on the stabbing. A fresh CCTV video has also emerged on social media, purportedly showing Tajpuriya being attacked in front of security personnel as they were carrying him away after the initial stabbing.
The footage shows that Tajpuriya was still alive and being carried away by security personnel when the accused attacked him for a second time. The security personnel appeared to be bystanders while the assailants continued to attack the gangster. The incident has raised questions about the adequacy of security measures in place at Tihar Jail.
Tajpuriya’s brutal killing has also highlighted the ongoing gang violence in the city, with multiple gang wars erupting in the past year. The Delhi Police have recently launched a crackdown on gangs, resulting in several arrests and seizures of weapons.
The incident has sparked outrage and calls for action from politicians and citizens alike. The Delhi government has pledged to take all necessary steps to ensure the safety of prisoners and staff at Tihar Jail. However, the incident has once again brought to light the challenges of maintaining law and order in the city, particularly in the face of organized crime.
