In a serious development of concerns over security in the northeastern region, a blast rocked an under-construction tourist facility at Betlingchhip in Tripura’s Jampui Hills. It is close to the Mizoram border. CM Manik Saha on Saturday ordered a high-level probe into the incident and assured the public that those responsible will be brought to justice.
Betlingchhip Blast Triggers Security Alert
The explosion occurred late Friday evening at a remote development site. It is meant to boost eco-tourism in the picturesque Betlingchhip region, the highest point in Tripura. Though no casualties have been reported, the blast caused structural damage to a part of the building and triggered widespread panic among locals and workers.
CM Saha called the incident a “deliberate attempt to destabilize peace” in the region. He has directed the Home Department and Tripura Police to collaborate with central agencies. Further, to investigate the motive and origin of the blast.
Official Response and Tightened Vigil
Soon after the incident, Tripura Police, along with special units, reached the blast site to secure the area and collect forensic evidence. “We are not ruling out any angle—including sabotage,” said DGP Amitabh Ranjan. “The site is under tight surveillance now, and all entry and exit points in the surrounding areas have been sealed.”
Local administrative officials have also increased patrolling near the Tripura–Mizoram border, which lies just a few kilometers away from the blast site.
