India’s Second Organic Fisheries Cluster

Tripura is set to receive a major boost in its aquaculture sector. Union Minister of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying Rajiv Ranjan Singh announced that the Centre will approve an Organic Fisheries Cluster for the state. With this, Tripura becomes the second state after Sikkim to host such a project.

The announcement came during Singh’s visit to the state, where he reviewed several development programs. He described Tripura as an ideal location for organic aquaculture due to its natural resources and rising interest among farmers.

A Vision for Sustainable Aquaculture

The upcoming cluster will promote organic methods of fish farming. Farmers will use natural feeds and chemical-free water treatment systems. This shift supports India’s larger plan for sustainable growth under the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMMSY).

Singh emphasized the need for clean and healthy fish production. “Tripura has the environment and the enthusiasm. We want to make it a model state for green aquaculture,” he said during the press meet.

Local Government Welcomes the Move Of Second Organic Fisheries

Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha welcomed the Centre’s decision. He stated that the state aims to become self-sufficient in fish production. He also urged the Union Minister to provide additional funds to improve cold chains and modern storage.

Saha said, “This cluster will improve livelihoods and increase local income. It also shows Tripura’s commitment to sustainable development.”

Cluster to Boost Employment and Exports

The organic fisheries cluster will generate over 1,500 jobs. Women-led self-help groups will play a big role in fish processing and marketing. The government will also create export links with Southeast Asian countries where demand for organic products is high.

Officials plan to link the project with the PM Gati Shakti initiative. This will ensure better transportation and cold chain management for fish exports.

Choosing the Right Location for Second Organic Fisheries

The Union Ministry and the Tripura Fisheries Department will soon conduct a feasibility study. Areas in Sepahijala and West Tripura districts are under review for the cluster site.

The government wants to make the process transparent. They plan to involve local fish farmers and experts in decision-making.

Supporting Tripura’s Green Push

This cluster builds on Tripura’s growing interest in organic farming. The state has already seen success with organic pineapples and rubber. Now, organic aquaculture joins the movement.

The project also has tourism potential. Officials want to develop eco-farms where visitors can learn about fish farming and organic techniques.

Government Calls for Participation

The government encourages youth and small farmers to take part in this initiative. The Tripura Fisheries Department has opened registrations for training programs. Farmers and cooperatives can apply to learn organic methods and receive technical support.

The project aims to raise awareness and promote long-term sustainability. Stakeholders can track updates and application details on the Tripura Government website.
