In a major announcement, Bollywood star Varun Dhawan has been revealed as the lead actor in the highly-anticipated Indian original series within the ‘Citadel’ franchise, set to be streamed on Prime Video. The yet-to-be-titled project is described as a “local Original spy series” and will be a collaboration between Prime Video and AGBO.
Renowned director duo Raj & DK, known for their previous success with Prime Video’s ‘The Family Man’ series, will take on the roles of showrunners and directors for this thrilling spy series. The team is excited to embark on the production of the Indian chapter of the ‘Citadel’ universe, aiming to deliver borderless entertainment with a captivating inter-connected storyline.

Varun Dhawan, who recently captivated audiences in the hit film ‘Bhediya’, expressed his delight in joining the streaming space with Prime Video and being a part of the Russo Brothers’ AGBO production. He described the ‘Citadel’ franchise as a landmark moment in his career and praised the visionary storytelling of Raj & DK, which promises to bring forth a spectacle.
The Indian Original ‘Citadel’ series, co-written by Sita R Menon along with Raj & DK, marks Varun Dhawan’s debut on the streaming platform. With executive producers Anthony and Joe Russo on board, they expressed their excitement to witness another chapter within the ‘Citadel’ universe unfold in India. Production for the series is slated to begin in January, with D2R Films and Amazon Studios serving as producers alongside AGBO. Meanwhile, the first-to-launch ‘Citadel’ series, featuring Richard Madden, Priyanka Chopra Jonas, and Stanley Tucci, is set to premiere in 2023.
