Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Thursday inaugurated a nationwide initiative by the Brahma Kumaris spiritual organization, aimed at enhancing the mental and emotional well-being of India’s security forces. The programme, titled “Security Forces: Protector of Pride”, is designed to offer spiritual and psychological support to members of the armed forces, paramilitary forces, and police personnel across the country.

The event, held at the Brahma Kumaris’ headquarters in Mount Abu, Rajasthan, marks a unique collaboration between a spiritual institution and the government, emphasizing the role of inner strength, peace, and mindfulness in the lives of those who protect the nation.

Strengthening the Inner Armour

While addressing the gathering, Home Minister Shah commended the Brahma Kumaris for launching the initiative, stating that the nation owes a deep debt of gratitude to the security forces who selflessly guard India’s borders and internal peace.

“Just as our forces are trained in physical endurance and warfare, they also need mental strength, emotional stability, and spiritual resilience,” Shah said. “This initiative will offer them the tools to cope with stress, trauma, and the heavy psychological burden that comes with the uniform.”

He highlighted that mental health is often overlooked in the discourse around national security, and commended Brahma Kumaris for bridging this gap through meditation, moral values, and self-awareness teachings.

Objectives of the Programme

The “Security Forces: Protector of Pride” programme will be rolled out in multiple phases across India. It aims to:

  • Offer meditation and spiritual counselling sessions at various military and paramilitary establishments.
  • Equip personnel with tools to manage stress, especially those in conflict-prone or high-risk zones.
  • Provide emotional support to families of the forces, who often face isolation and anxiety due to prolonged deployments of their loved ones.
  • Promote values-based leadership, discipline, and integrity through spiritual guidance.

The sessions will be conducted both in-person and online by trained Brahma Kumaris faculty, and will also include modules on yoga, mindfulness, and self-reflection.

A Human-Centric Approach to Security

Shah emphasized that the security of a nation depends not just on guns and guards, but also on the morale and mental health of those who serve it.

“When the soldier is calm and balanced within, he can make better decisions on the field. When his heart is at peace, his hands will protect with purpose,” Shah said.

He noted that Indian forces are constantly exposed to physical dangers, life-threatening conditions, and emotionally draining scenarios. “It is important that they are given avenues to rejuvenate their inner world, and that is what this programme promises,” he added.

Brahma Kumaris’ Role in Nation-Building

The Brahma Kumaris, a spiritual movement rooted in Rajyoga meditation, has previously conducted programmes for students, professionals, and women empowerment. This is their first large-scale engagement with security forces.

Sister Jayanti, Additional Administrative Head of the organization, said, “We are deeply honoured to support the brave men and women who serve our country. This initiative is about helping them rediscover peace and stability within themselves, even amid the toughest challenges.”

The organization plans to reach out to over 10 lakh personnel through workshops, retreats, and digital modules over the next two years.

A Step Towards Holistic Security

Shah concluded the event by reiterating the government’s commitment to the well-being of the armed forces, stating that such collaborations signal a progressive step in national security strategy.

“Security is not just about borders and bunkers. It’s about ensuring that those who protect us are themselves protected from despair, anxiety, and emotional fatigue,” he said.

The launch of this programme also aligns with broader national efforts to address mental health concerns within India’s security apparatus, including the deployment of psychologists, helplines, and stress-management training modules.

As India modernizes its defence and internal security mechanisms, initiatives like this are expected to play a transformative role in building a resilient and emotionally intelligent force.

This programme stands as a reminder that while uniforms may be made of fabric, the strength behind them lies in the spirit within.
