Mumbai: In the wake of a distressing incident involving the sexual assault of a 20-year-old student on a moving train, leaders from the Congress and Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) expressed their condemnation, casting doubts on the efficiency of the state’s home department led by Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis.

The incident, which has sent shockwaves throughout the region, has once again raised concerns about the safety of women and the effectiveness of measures in place to protect them. The Congress and NCP leaders were quick to point out the gravity of the situation, emphasizing that such incidents continue to occur despite assurances from the ruling government.

Addressing the issue, a spokesperson from the Congress party stated, “The recent incident is deeply distressing and raises serious questions about the competence of the home department. The safety and security of citizens, especially women, should be of paramount importance, and it is disheartening to witness a failure in providing a secure environment.”

Echoing these sentiments, an NCP leader expressed, “The incident is a clear indication of the government’s inability to ensure the safety of its citizens. We urge the authorities to take immediate and stringent action against the culprits and implement stronger measures to prevent such heinous crimes in the future.”

Both parties stressed the need for urgent action, emphasizing the importance of a robust and efficient law enforcement system to combat crimes against women. They further called for a thorough investigation into the incident, ensuring that the perpetrators are brought to justice and measures are put in place to prevent similar occurrences.

Meanwhile, Deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis, who also holds the home department portfolio, assured the public that the government is taking the matter seriously. He emphasized that every effort will be made to apprehend the culprits and reiterated the government’s commitment to improving safety measures.

In response to the criticism from opposition parties, Fadnavis stated, “We acknowledge the concerns raised by the Congress and NCP leaders. We are committed to ensuring the safety of every citizen, and this incident will be thoroughly investigated. We will leave no stone unturned in bringing the perpetrators to justice and implementing measures to prevent such incidents in the future.”

As the investigation unfolds, citizens and activists continue to demand stricter safety measures and effective implementation of existing laws to ensure the well-being of women in public spaces. The incident has sparked a renewed debate on women’s safety and the need for comprehensive measures to prevent such atrocities.
