The Government of Manipur has started two new projects, the Tribal Culture Short Film Competition and the Tribal Culture Photography Competition, as a major step to honor and promote the rich culture of its tribal populations.
The purpose of these events is to give tribal youth, artists and storytellers a platform to creatively present the rich traditions, culture and ways of life of the various tribal people in Manipur.
A Platform to Preserve and Promote Tribal Culture
The contests are a part of the Van Dhan Yojana and other cultural promotion programs that the Manipur government’s Department of Tribal Affairs and Hills started. Participants are urged to imaginatively document tribal folklore, customs, festivals, traditional dress, oral histories and daily life through short films and photos.
Department officials highlighted that the competitions were created to motivate young people to tell stories digitally, giving them the ability to record and share their cultural identity in a world that is becoming more interconnected by the day.
Competition Details and Participation
Both professional and amateur photographers and filmmakers who live in Manipur or are of tribal descent are eligible to enter the competitions. Winning contributions will be displayed at state-level cultural festivals and online and participants will have the chance to earn cash prizes, certificates and official recognition.
The entries need to emphasize:
- Tribal livelihood and way of life
