Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has challenged Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to prove any corruption charges against him. Kejriwal accused central probe agencies of trying to prove him a “thief” by any means possible. He made the comments during a recent event where he dedicated 80 ‘Aam Aadmi Clinics’ to the people of Punjab.
The chief minister claimed that the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), the Enforcement Directorate (ED), the Income Tax department, and the police were all after him, and accused them of trying to prove that he had indulged in corruption. Kejriwal also spoke about the excise policy case, in which his former deputy Manish Sisodia is already in jail. The CBI had summoned Kejriwal as a witness in the case.
Kejriwal addressed Prime Minister Modi directly, saying, “If Kejriwal is corrupt, there is no one honest in this world. I want to tell him that the day you find corruption of a single paisa against Kejriwal, hang me publicly.” He added that the government should “stop this roz-roz ki nautanki and tamasha (drama)” and focus on addressing the needs of the people.
Kejriwal is no stranger to controversy. He has been involved in several high-profile disputes with Modi’s Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government since he became chief minister in 2015. Kejriwal has been accused of staging protests, making false accusations against political opponents, and spreading disinformation. However, he has also been praised for his efforts to improve public services in Delhi, including healthcare, education, and public transportation.
The latest comments by Kejriwal have sparked a new round of debate and criticism. Some have praised his bold stance against corruption and political manipulation, while others have accused him of grandstanding and playing to his base. It remains to be seen how the situation will play out, but one thing is clear: the political landscape in India remains as contentious and unpredictable as ever.
