Additionally, Goa will actively participate in the G20 mega beach cleaning event taking place on May 21. Organized by the Department of Environment in association with the Goa State Biodiversity Board (GSBB), this event will witness the enthusiastic participation of the Indian Navy, Coast Guard, and various industries. Calangute and Colva village panchayats have been chosen as the designated cleaning sites. However, this beach cleaning drive stands apart from the rest as experts will be present to identify sea weed species, adding a scientific dimension to the initiative.
During the beach cleaning event, participants will have the opportunity to participate in a “selfie point from waste” activity and photography competitions. These activities align with the global theme for the International Day of Biodiversity: “From agreement to action – building back biodiversity.”
On May 23, the main event, graced by the presence of Union Environment Minister, Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, and State Environment Minister Nilesh Cabral, will also witness the declaration of the Goa State Biodiversity Conservation Awards. These awards will recognize the exceptional efforts of the Village Biodiversity Management Committees (BMCs) and individuals who have made significant contributions to biodiversity conservation.
