Actor Gulshan Devaiah, known for his villainous roles in films like “Hate Story” and “Commando 3,” is now taking on a different persona as he portrays a progressive cop named Devi Lal Singh in the crime series “Dahaad.” Devaiah reveals that it has always been a childhood dream of his to don a police uniform and play a law enforcement officer on screen.
In an interview, Devaiah expressed his excitement about playing a positive character for a change. He stated, “This is the nicest guy I have played in my entire career. He is a good guy. People tend to enjoy the bad guy roles that I do, so I wanted to woo them from a different side this time.” Devaiah’s character, Devi Lal Singh, is depicted as an empathetic and honest cop whose progressive mindset often puts him at odds with his superiors.
Recalling his childhood inspiration from actors like Amitabh Bachchan, Vinod Khanna, and Shatrughan Sinha, who portrayed police officers in iconic films such as “Zanjeer” and “Amar Akbar Anthony,” Devaiah shared his long-standing desire to play a police officer. Wearing the uniform in most of his scenes on “Dahaad” fulfills a silly childhood fantasy for him, and he feels grateful to be living his dream as an actor.
“Dahaad,” currently streaming on Prime Video, revolves around the character Anjali Bhaati, played by Sonakshi Sinha, and her colleagues Devi Lal Singh and Kailash Parghi, portrayed by Sohum Shah. The trio works together in a small-town police station in Rajasthan, investigating a puzzling case involving the deaths of women in public bathrooms. Devaiah expressed his appreciation for the compelling story and the opportunity to work with the esteemed production house Excel Entertainment and Tiger Baby.
Furthermore, Devaiah revealed his aspiration to be directed by Zoya Akhtar, one of the creators of “Dahaad.” He acknowledged the positive experiences of his friends who have worked with Akhtar and expressed his eagerness for his turn to come.
