Khopanala explosion case has now been taken over by the National Investigation Agency (NIA), marking a significant development in the investigation into the deadly blast that occurred in Nagaland’s Chümoukedima district earlier this month. The Centre’s decision to transfer the case to India’s premier counter-terrorism agency underscores the seriousness of the incident and the possibility of wider security implications. The Ministry of Home Affairs has officially handed over the Khopanala explosion case to the NIA following the deadly explosion that took place on July 13 near Khopanala, close to Shukhovi in Chümoukedima district.
The blast, suspected to have been caused by an improvised explosive device (IED), struck an Assam Rifles convoy travelling towards Dimapur. One Assam Rifles personnel was killed in the explosion, while four others sustained injuries. Authorities initially believed the explosive device may have been concealed inside an auto-rickshaw parked along the route.
With the NIA now leading the investigation, officials are expected to conduct an extensive probe into the conspiracy, execution, and possible involvement of militant groups or other anti-national elements.
Investigation gathered momentum before NIA takeover
