Manipur drug peddlers have been arrested in Bishnupur district as security forces intensified operations against narcotics trafficking and illegal arms in Manipur. The arrests were made during a security operation in the district, while weapons, ammunition and explosive materials were also recovered from separate locations, officials said.
The action comes amid continued efforts by Manipur Police and security forces to curb drug trafficking, illegal arms possession and other criminal activities across the state. Bishnupur, located in the valley region, has remained among the districts where security agencies have conducted regular search and area-domination operations.
Manipur drug peddlers arrested in Bishnupur
According to officials, two alleged Manipur drug peddlers were apprehended from the Kwakta Terakhongshangbi area of Bishnupur district. The accused were identified as T.S. Valleyrose, 40, and T.T. Doveine Worthingla, 37, both residents of Ngari Raidulomai village in Senapati district.
Police recovered 11 soap cases containing suspected heroin from their possession. The seized contraband weighed around 161 grams and was estimated to be worth approximately Rs 1.83 crore, according to reports based on official information. Two mobile phones and two Aadhaar cards were also recovered during the operation.
The two suspects were taken into custody for further investigation. Authorities are expected to examine the source of the suspected heroin, its intended destination and whether the accused were connected to a wider trafficking network.
Drug trafficking remains a security concern
The arrest highlights the continuing challenge posed by narcotics trafficking in Manipur. Security agencies have repeatedly seized heroin, brown sugar and methamphetamine tablets in different parts of the state.
Manipur’s location in the northeastern region also places it close to routes connected to the wider drug trade originating from Myanmar. Officials and security agencies have previously reported seizures of heroin and methamphetamine in operations targeting suspected trafficking networks.
In one recent operation in June 2026, Manipur Police arrested two alleged drug peddlers, including a resident of Assam. One suspect was apprehended in Imphal West with 412 grams of WY, or methamphetamine, tablets.
Weapons and explosives recovered during operations
The anti-narcotics action came against the backdrop of wider security operations in Bishnupur and other districts. Security forces have continued searching vulnerable and remote areas for concealed arms, ammunition and explosives.
On July 2, security forces recovered a cache of weapons and explosives from the foothills of Kumbi Setupur near Kumbi Sagolpat under Kumbi Police Station in Bishnupur district. The recovery included an M16 rifle, a 9mm pistol, three single-barrel breech-loading guns, an improvised mortar, five mortar bombs, four high-explosive hand grenades, ammunition and magazines. No arrests were reported in connection with that particular recovery.
Earlier, security forces also recovered a large cache of arms and improvised explosive devices from areas around Loktak Lake and Sendra Hill in Bishnupur district during an August operation. Officials said the recovery underlined the continued use of remote and difficult-to-access locations to conceal illegal weapons and explosives.
Security operations continue across Manipur
The latest arrests and recoveries form part of broader security measures being carried out across Manipur. Police and central security forces have conducted search operations, checkpoints and area-domination exercises in vulnerable locations.
Authorities have also maintained a focus on preventing the movement of illegal weapons and narcotics between districts. Such operations are aimed at disrupting criminal networks and preventing the circulation of materials that could contribute to further violence or insecurity.
The recovery of arms and explosives remains particularly significant in a state where security agencies continue to deal with armed groups and periodic violence. Police have repeatedly urged residents to cooperate with security personnel and report suspicious activities.
The investigation into the two arrests in Bishnupur is expected to establish the broader network, if any, behind the suspected heroin supply. Authorities are also likely to examine the seized phones and other material as part of the inquiry.
