Mizoram recorded a tourist footfall of around 5.37 lakh during the first six months of the year, Tourism Minister Lalnghinglova Hmar informed the state Assembly, highlighting the continued growth of the tourism sector in the northeastern state.
According to the minister, more than 5.28 lakh domestic tourists visited Mizoram between January and June, while foreign tourist arrivals stood at around 8,700. The figures underline the growing contribution of domestic tourism to the state’s overall visitor numbers and reflect Mizoram’s increasing prominence as a tourism destination in the Northeast.
The minister said the state government has been taking several steps to strengthen the tourism sector, including improving infrastructure, promoting homestays and expanding outreach to attract more visitors.
Over 5.28 Lakh Domestic Tourists Visit Mizoram
Domestic travellers accounted for the overwhelming majority of tourists visiting Mizoram during the first half of the year.
Of the total footfall of around 5.37 lakh, more than 5.28 lakh were domestic tourists, while approximately 8,700 visitors arrived from foreign countries, Hmar told the Assembly.
The figures indicate the growing interest among Indian travellers in exploring destinations across the Northeast. Mizoram, known for its hills, forests, distinctive culture and scenic landscapes, has increasingly been attracting visitors looking for nature-based and cultural tourism experiences.
The continued growth in domestic arrivals could also provide a boost to local businesses, transport services, accommodation providers and communities involved in the tourism sector.
Tourism Minister Highlights Safe Travel Experience
Hmar also highlighted the experience of visitors travelling to the state, stating that no reports had been received of tourists facing difficulties or causing trouble during their stay in Mizoram.
The government has been working to promote the state as a safe and welcoming destination while developing facilities for visitors.

According to the information shared by the Tourism Minister, the Centre has released Rs 610.78 crore for tourism-related development, with 14 projects and 199 homestays advancing as part of efforts to strengthen the sector.
Homestays are expected to play an increasingly important role in Mizoram’s tourism ecosystem by providing visitors with accommodation options while also creating income opportunities for local residents.
The development of tourism infrastructure is aimed at improving the overall visitor experience and making destinations across the state more accessible.

The latest tourist footfall figures follow strong growth recorded by Mizoram’s tourism sector in recent years.
The state had recorded more than 12.68 lakh tourist visits during 2024 and 2025 combined, according to figures previously presented by the Tourism Minister. The number of visitors rose from 4.27 lakh in 2024 to more than 8.41 lakh in 2025, reflecting a sharp increase in tourist arrivals.
Improved infrastructure, including enhanced connectivity, along with tourism promotion initiatives have contributed to the state’s efforts to attract more visitors.
The continued increase in tourist arrivals is expected to encourage further investment in accommodation, transport and tourism facilities.
