Naharlagun Railway Station road closure has been extended until October 30 in Arunachal Pradesh’s Papum Pare district to facilitate ongoing cement concrete pavement, road improvement and widening work. The restriction affects the stretch from the Railway Bridge at Lekhi/Borum to the tri-junction near Borum Railway Station. Commuters have been advised to follow designated diversion routes during the construction period.
Road closure extended until October 30
The Assistant Commissioner of the Itanagar Capital Complex issued an order on September 30 extending the complete closure of the road for another month. The restriction came into effect on September 30 and will remain in force until October 30, 2026.
The closed section runs from the Railway Bridge at Lekhi/Borum to the tri-junction close to the railway station at Borum. The administration said the extension is intended to allow uninterrupted execution of the road improvement project.
The work involves improvement and widening of the road between the Borum tri-junction and the Railway Bridge near Arunodaya University in Naharlagun. Kenge Construction is executing the road improvement work and has appealed to commuters to cooperate with the traffic restrictions.
Traffic advisory for commuters
Under the advisory issued by the administration, vehicles travelling from the Railway Station towards Lekhi and Nirjuli will have to take an alternative route.
The designated diversion will pass through the Galo Heritage Gate near the railway tri-junction, Galo Heritage Ground and the Railway Bridge. Commuters heading in this direction have been urged to avoid the closed section and use the alternative route to reduce congestion and maintain safety around the construction zone.
For vehicles travelling from Lekhi towards the Railway Station and Borum, the administration has prescribed another diversion. Traffic will be routed through the Railway Bridge tri-junction, Concrete Mixer Plant, Borum Community Hall and Stadium Road.
Why the Naharlagun Railway Station road closure matters
The affected route is important for daily movement between Lekhi, Borum, Naharlagun and nearby areas. The road also provides access to the railway station, making the traffic restriction significant for passengers travelling to and from the station.
The authorities have therefore asked motorists to strictly follow the diversion plan instead of entering the restricted stretch. The construction agency has also appealed to the public to respect the No Entry restriction.
The administration said public cooperation will be important for ensuring safety and allowing the roadwork to progress smoothly. Avoiding unauthorised entry into the work zone can also help prevent delays to construction activity.
Road widening aimed at better connectivity
The current project forms part of continuing efforts to improve road connectivity around the Itanagar Capital Complex. Better links between Borum, Lekhi and Naharlagun are important because the area has faced traffic pressure and has required additional routes to support movement.
Earlier infrastructure projects in the area have also focused on improving connectivity between Lekhi, Borum and the railway station. A railway bridge connecting Lekhi with Borum was developed to provide an alternative connection and help reduce congestion on major roads in the capital region.
The wider road network around Naharlagun has long been affected by traffic congestion. Alternative bridges and connecting roads have been planned and developed to provide additional routes for commuters travelling towards Lekhi, Nirjuli, Borum and other parts of the capital region.
Commuters urged to plan ahead
With the Naharlagun Railway Station road closure continuing through October 30, commuters may need to allow additional travel time, particularly during busy periods. Railway passengers are advised to check their route before leaving and use the prescribed diversions.
The administration’s traffic arrangement is designed to keep vehicles away from the construction area while allowing road improvement work to continue without interruption. Motorists have been asked to cooperate with officials and construction workers and avoid attempting to bypass the No Entry restriction.
The Naharlagun Railway Station road closure is expected to remain in place for the full period specified in the September 30 order unless the authorities issue a fresh direction. Until then, commuters travelling between Lekhi, Borum and the railway station should use the designated alternative routes.
The Naharlagun Railway Station road closure highlights the temporary traffic challenges that can accompany infrastructure upgrades, but the ongoing widening work is aimed at improving movement and connectivity in the long term. With motorists following the diversion plan and construction progressing as scheduled, the project is expected to support safer and more efficient travel in the Naharlagun-Borum area.
