Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Monday said that electricity supply is being gradually restored across flood-affected areas of the state after mandatory safety inspections. The restoration process is being carried out in phases to ensure that power connections are safe for households and public infrastructure before electricity is resumed.
The Chief Minister stated that the Assam Power Distribution Company Limited (APDCL) and other concerned agencies are working on a war footing to restore normalcy in districts affected by the recent floods. Teams have been deployed across the state to inspect damaged electrical infrastructure, replace faulty equipment, and reconnect power wherever conditions permit.
Safety inspections being prioritised
Himanta Biswa Sarma emphasized that public safety remains the government’s foremost priority during the restoration process. He said electricity supply is being restored only after engineers and technical teams complete thorough inspections of transformers, distribution lines, substations, and household connections.
The Chief Minister noted that floodwaters often damage electrical installations, increasing the risk of short circuits and electrocution. Therefore, power restoration is being undertaken only after ensuring that the infrastructure is completely safe for consumers.
He urged residents in flood-affected areas to cooperate with electricity department officials and immediately report damaged poles, exposed wires, or any electrical hazards.
APDCL teams working round the clock
According to the Chief Minister, APDCL personnel have been working continuously to repair damaged infrastructure and restore electricity to affected communities. Technical teams have been deployed in multiple districts to assess the extent of damage and expedite restoration efforts.
Officials are replacing damaged transformers, repairing snapped transmission and distribution lines, and restoring substations that were affected by floodwaters. Emergency response teams have also been mobilised to address faults reported by local residents as quickly as possible.
The government said restoration work is progressing steadily despite logistical challenges in areas where floodwaters have only recently receded.

Officials have also urged consumers to ensure that internal wiring and electrical appliances affected by flooding are inspected before use. Safety checks within homes are considered equally important to prevent accidents after power supply resumes.
