Union Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has approved the release of ₹1,183.11 crore under the Pradhan Mantri Rashtriya Krishi Vikas Yojana (PM-RKVY) and Krishonnati Yojana for five states, aimed at increasing farmers’ income, reducing cultivation costs and expanding the use of modern agricultural technologies.
The second tranche of funds will be released to Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Odisha, Uttarakhand and Tripura. The approval came following a high-level review meeting chaired by Chouhan through video conferencing with agriculture ministers and senior officials from the five states. Union Agriculture Secretary Atish Chandra also attended the meeting.
Funds Approved Under PM-RKVY and Krishonnati Yojana
Chouhan approved the second “mother sanction” amounting to ₹1,183.11 crore under the two major central agricultural schemes.
The funds are intended to strengthen agricultural development programmes in the beneficiary states, with a focus on improving farm productivity, promoting modern technology and supporting measures that can help reduce the cost of cultivation.
PM-RKVY is designed to support sustainable agricultural development and provides states with flexibility in implementing agriculture-related programmes based on their specific requirements. The Krishonnati Yojana, meanwhile, brings together several agricultural initiatives aimed at strengthening food security, productivity and agricultural self-sufficiency.
Andhra Pradesh Receives the Highest Allocation
Among the five states, Andhra Pradesh has received the highest allocation of ₹409.40 crore.
Tamil Nadu has been approved ₹355.88 crore, followed by Odisha with ₹219.65 crore. Uttarakhand will receive ₹106.67 crore, while Tripura has been allocated ₹91.51 crore.
The state-wise allocations are expected to support a range of agricultural programmes based on local requirements and priorities.
| State | Fund Allocation |
|---|---|
| Andhra Pradesh | ₹409.40 crore |
| Tamil Nadu | ₹355.88 crore |
| Odisha | ₹219.65 crore |
| Uttarakhand | ₹106.67 crore |
| Tripura | ₹91.51 crore |
The allocations together make up the ₹1,183.11 crore second tranche approved under PM-RKVY and Krishonnati Yojana.
Focus on Increasing Farmers’ Income
The latest financial approval is aimed at supporting initiatives that can improve the economic condition of farmers.
According to the government, the funds will be used to enhance farm incomes, reduce cultivation expenses and expand access to modern agricultural practices and technologies.
Addressing the review meeting, Chouhan emphasised the importance of cooperation between the Centre and state governments in ensuring that farmers receive the benefits of agricultural schemes in a timely manner.
The government is seeking to strengthen agricultural infrastructure and encourage the adoption of modern techniques that can improve productivity and resource efficiency.
Push for Micro-Irrigation and Water Conservation
A key focus of the funding will be the promotion of micro-irrigation through the Per Drop More Crop initiative.
Micro-irrigation systems are aimed at improving water-use efficiency and helping farmers achieve better productivity while conserving water. The programme has become increasingly important as agriculture faces challenges related to water availability and changing climatic conditions.
The funds approved under the schemes will help states expand such initiatives and encourage farmers to adopt efficient irrigation technologies suited to their agricultural requirements.
Support for Agricultural Mechanisation
The financial support will also help promote agricultural mechanisation, particularly by providing assistance to small and marginal farmers for accessing modern machinery.
Under the Sub-Mission on Agricultural Mechanization (SMAM), eligible farmers can receive support for adopting equipment and machinery that can improve efficiency and reduce dependence on manual labour.
Greater mechanisation can help farmers complete agricultural operations more efficiently and potentially reduce production costs. The latest allocation is therefore expected to support the wider adoption of modern farm equipment in the five states.
Tripura Allocation to Support Key Agricultural Initiatives
Tripura has been allocated ₹91.51 crore under the latest approval.
The funding is expected to support agricultural development initiatives in the northeastern state, including programmes related to agricultural mechanisation. Reports said the allocation will also help strengthen areas such as the Bamboo Mission and oil palm cultivation.
The funding is part of the broader effort to ensure that agricultural programmes are implemented across different regions based on their local resources and development priorities.
Chouhan Calls for Faster Implementation
During the review meeting, Chouhan urged the state governments to speed up the implementation of agricultural schemes so that the benefits reach eligible farmers without unnecessary delays.
The minister stressed the importance of effective utilisation of the funds and timely execution of approved programmes at the grassroots level.
The latest approval reflects the Centre’s continued focus on strengthening coordination with state governments in implementing agricultural welfare programmes.
With more than ₹1,183 crore now approved for the five states, the government expects the funding to support improved farm incomes, modernisation, water conservation and agricultural productivity. The Shivraj Chouhan approves ₹1,183 crore decision is expected to give fresh momentum to the implementation of PM-RKVY and Krishonnati Yojana across the beneficiary states.
