Manipur Chief Minister Khemchand has alleged that certain vested interests are attempting to disrupt the ongoing efforts to restore peace and normalcy in the state. Emphasising that the government remains committed to reconciliation and stability, the Chief Minister urged citizens not to fall prey to misinformation or divisive elements seeking to create fresh tensions.
Addressing a public programme, Khemchand said significant progress has been made in improving the security situation through coordinated efforts by the state administration, security forces, and community leaders. However, he cautioned that some groups continue to spread rumours and provoke unrest with the intention of undermining the peace process.
The Chief Minister reaffirmed that the government would continue taking firm action against anyone trying to disturb law and order while working towards lasting peace.
Government Committed to Restoring Lasting Peace
Khemchand said restoring peace remains the government’s highest priority. He noted that the administration has been working closely with central agencies, security forces, and various stakeholders to create an environment conducive to reconciliation and development.
According to the Chief Minister, several confidence-building measures have already been initiated to reduce tensions, improve public safety, and facilitate dialogue between communities.
He stressed that sustainable peace can only be achieved through cooperation, mutual trust, and respect among all sections of society.
‘Vested Interests’ Attempting to Create Divisions
The Chief Minister alleged that certain vested interests are deliberately trying to derail the peace process by spreading misinformation, encouraging distrust, and attempting to inflame communal sentiments.
He urged citizens to remain vigilant against rumours circulating through social media and other informal channels, warning that false information can easily escalate tensions and disrupt efforts to restore normalcy.
Khemchand appealed to the public to rely on verified official information and avoid sharing unconfirmed reports that could contribute to instability.
Appeal for Public Cooperation
Calling for collective responsibility, the Chief Minister urged people from all communities to support the government’s efforts to maintain peace and harmony. He said public cooperation is essential in preventing misunderstandings and ensuring that law and order are preserved.
He encouraged community leaders, civil society organisations, youth groups, and local residents to work together in promoting dialogue and resolving differences peacefully.
According to Khemchand, lasting peace cannot be achieved solely through administrative measures but requires active participation from every section of society.
Security Forces Continue Vigilance
The Chief Minister said security agencies remain on high alert to prevent any attempts to disturb public order. Search operations, area domination exercises, intelligence gathering, and enhanced patrolling are continuing in sensitive areas to maintain peace and ensure the safety of citizens.
He praised the efforts of the security forces for their professionalism and dedication in handling challenging situations while protecting civilians.
The government, he said, will continue strengthening security arrangements wherever necessary to prevent fresh incidents of violence.
Focus on Development Alongside Peace
Khemchand emphasised that peace and development are closely interconnected. He said restoring stability is essential for accelerating infrastructure projects, improving public services, attracting investment, and creating employment opportunities for the people of Manipur.
The government remains focused on implementing development initiatives in sectors such as education, healthcare, roads, agriculture, and livelihood generation while simultaneously addressing security concerns.
He noted that a peaceful environment would allow both public and private investment to contribute to the state’s long-term economic progress.
Dialogue and Reconciliation Remain Key Priorities
The Chief Minister reiterated that the government supports dialogue as the primary means of resolving differences and promoting reconciliation among communities. He said meaningful engagement, mutual understanding, and respect for democratic values are necessary to build long-term peace.
The administration, he added, will continue interacting with community representatives and other stakeholders to address grievances and strengthen confidence-building measures.
Khemchand expressed hope that sustained dialogue would help bridge divisions and create an atmosphere of trust across the state.
Action Against Those Disturbing Law and Order
While appealing for peace, the Chief Minister also warned that strict legal action would be taken against individuals or groups found involved in activities that threaten public order or incite violence.
He said the government would not tolerate attempts to destabilise the state and that law enforcement agencies have been instructed to act firmly against anyone violating the law.
The administration remains committed to ensuring that peace-building efforts are not undermined by unlawful activities or attempts to spread fear among the public.
Government Reaffirms Commitment to Stability
The Chief Minister’s remarks underline the government’s determination to safeguard the ongoing peace process despite challenges. By warning against vested interests attempting to derail reconciliation efforts, Khemchand called upon citizens to remain united and support initiatives aimed at restoring harmony across Manipur.
As the state continues to move towards normalcy, the government says it will maintain its dual focus on strengthening security and promoting dialogue while accelerating development. Through cooperation between the administration, security agencies, and local communities, Manipur hopes to build a stable, peaceful, and prosperous future for all its residents.
