The case before the court originated from a suo motu criminal contempt proceeding against Krishna Kumar Raghuvanshi, initiated in response to his defiance of court orders in a temple-related dispute and his circulation of a letter maligning the court’s image through WhatsApp. The Additional District Judge SPS Bandela referred the matter under Section 15(2) of the Contempt of Courts Act, leading to Raghuvanshi’s conviction.
During the proceedings, Raghuvanshi’s counsel sought leniency, arguing that the imprisonment order was excessive.
