The recent murder of gangster Tillu Tajpuriya inside Tihar Jail has shocked the nation, and now a second CCTV footage has emerged, adding to the gruesome details of the incident. The footage shows Tajpuriya being stabbed by three fellow inmates with weapons fashioned out of lockup grills while uniformed personnel stood by and did not intervene.
This second footage is from around 6:15 am on May 2, shortly after the first set of CCTV footage emerged, which showed no police official present at the scene. The new footage is particularly alarming as it reveals police personnel standing near Tajpuriya as the attackers continue to stab him.
Tajpuriya was a prime accused in the Rohini Court shootout case and had been in jail since his arrest in 2016. He was attacked by members of a rival gang who cut open an iron grill and used an improvised saw to enter his ward. The accused were also lodged on the same floor and used an iron rod to attack Tajpuriya.
The case has been transferred to a special cell for investigation and has been registered under sections 302 and 307 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). However, the incident has raised questions about the security arrangements in Tihar Jail and the responsibility of the police personnel present during the attack.
Tajpuriya’s gang had a long-standing rivalry with another gang led by notorious gangster Jitender Gogi, who was killed in the Rohini Court shootout in September 2021. Tajpuriya was the main accused in the case, and his alleged associates had come dressed in lawyer’s clothes to carry out the attack.
The incident highlights the need for better security measures in Indian prisons and the importance of separating rival gang members to avoid such violent confrontations. It also raises concerns about the safety of inmates and the accountability of prison officials in ensuring their protection.
The Tihar Jail murder is a tragic reminder of the violence and lawlessness that often surrounds gang culture in India and the challenges faced by law enforcement agencies in dealing with it.
