In a devastating incident, a woman, her minor son, and niece lost their lives as a result of an explosion caused by an e-rickshaw battery inside their rented house. The incident occurred in the Niwazpurwa locality, near Juggaur crossing of the Babu Banarasi Das police station area in Lucknow.
The victims have been identified as Roli, 25, the wife of Ankit Kumar Goswami, an e-rickshaw driver, along with her son Kunj, aged 3, and niece Riya, aged 9. The family hails from Barabanki and had been residing in Lucknow for some time.
According to the police, the tragedy unfolded when Goswami was charging a couple of batteries for his e-rickshaw inside their room. It is suspected that one of the batteries exploded due to overcharging around 5 am on Thursday. Goswami had stepped out of the house momentarily when the explosion occurred, narrowly escaping harm.
The impact of the explosion reverberated throughout the neighborhood, leaving Roli and the children inside the room severely injured. They were immediately rushed to a nearby hospital for medical attention. Tragically, Roli, Kunj, and Riya succumbed to their injuries later that night, while Roli’s infant daughter, Siya, and the injured daughter are currently receiving treatment at the hospital.
Local authorities swiftly intervened, sending the bodies for post-mortem examinations and launching an investigation into the incident. The preliminary assessment suggests that the battery’s overcharging may have been the cause of the explosion, but a comprehensive inquiry is underway to determine the exact circumstances.
