On the occasion of Jawaharlal Nehru’s death anniversary, the Congress party came together to pay heartfelt tributes to India’s first prime minister. Rahul Gandhi, former party chief, expressed that Nehru’s legacy stands tall like a beacon, illuminating the very idea of India and the values of freedom and democracy.

Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge and Rahul Gandhi visited Nehru’s memorial at Shanti Van, where they paid floral tributes to the visionary leader. Senior leaders KC Venugopal and Pawan Bansal were also present to honor Nehru’s immense contributions. Additionally, several party members took to social media to express their reverence for the Congress stalwart.

Jawaharlal Nehru, born in 1889, holds the distinction of being India’s longest-serving prime minister. From August 1947 to May 1964, he played a crucial role in shaping the nation’s destiny. Even today, Nehru’s contributions remain integral to India’s progress and development.

Kharge, in a heartfelt tweet in Hindi, stated that the India of the 21st century cannot be imagined without the remarkable contributions of Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru. A fearless defender of democracy, Nehru’s progressive ideas propelled India’s social, political, and economic growth, despite numerous challenges. Kharge paid his humble tribute to the “Hind ke Jawahar” (Jewel of India).

Rahul Gandhi, in a tweet, emphasized Nehru’s towering legacy that continues to illuminate the idea of India. He highlighted the values Nehru dedicated his life to: freedom, democracy, secularism, and modernity. Gandhi acknowledged that Nehru’s vision and values serve as a guiding force for their conscience and actions.

Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra also paid homage to Nehru by sharing an audio-video montage on Twitter, emphasizing the significant contributions of India’s first prime minister.

The official Twitter handle of the Congress party also joined in paying tributes to Nehru. They referred to him as the “Architect of Modern India” and recognized his visionary leadership that propelled the nation to great heights through various economic policies and industrial establishments. They highlighted Nehru’s role in establishing prestigious institutions like the IITs, IIMs, AIIMS, and DRDO, as well as India’s achievements in nuclear and space research. The Congress celebrated Nehru’s legacy, stating that he elevated India’s status as a leading global power.
