Sikkim Adventure Tourism Fest 2026 is set to bring a major boost to adventure tourism in the Himalayan state, with a week-long celebration scheduled from November 1 to 7 across all six districts. Organised by the Tourism and Civil Aviation Department in collaboration with Sikkim INSPIRES, the festival will showcase the state’s natural landscapes, outdoor activities and cultural heritage while creating fresh opportunities for local businesses and tourism operators.
The festival, themed “Explore Without Boundaries”, will feature more than 20 activities, including paragliding, river rafting, mountain biking, trekking, ziplining, hot-air ballooning and birdwatching. Linkhim Tar in Namchi district will serve as the principal venue, with adventure experiences extending to destinations across the state.
Sikkim Adventure Tourism Fest 2026 to Cover All Six Districts
The upcoming festival aims to position Sikkim as a leading destination for adventure tourism by connecting established tourist centres with lesser-known locations. Activities will be organised across all six districts, allowing visitors to experience different landscapes, outdoor challenges and community-based tourism offerings.
According to officials, Linkhim Tar will function as the main hub for the celebrations, combining adventure activities with recreation and family entertainment. Trekking expeditions and nature-based experiences will also take place in other parts of the state.
The initiative is intended to encourage tourists to explore destinations beyond conventional travel circuits while highlighting Sikkim’s mountains, rivers, forests and rural communities.
Adventure Sports and Outdoor Activities Take Centre Stage
A major attraction of the festival will be its wide range of adventure sports designed for different interests and experience levels. Visitors can look forward to paragliding, river rafting, mountain biking, trekking, ziplining and hot-air ballooning, alongside birdwatching and eco-tourism experiences.
Adventure relay packages will combine multiple activities into structured journeys, allowing participants to experience different forms of outdoor recreation during their visit. These packages are expected to connect scenic routes, local accommodation and adventure locations.
The programme is also intended to attract families and casual travellers, rather than catering exclusively to experienced adventure enthusiasts. However, participation in individual activities will depend on their specific requirements, operating conditions and safety assessments.
Preparations Underway to Ensure Safety
The state government has been undertaking preparations to ensure that the festival can operate smoothly. On October 13 and 14, officials from the Tourism and Civil Aviation Department, the Information and Public Relations Department and other stakeholders conducted reconnaissance visits to proposed adventure locations.
The assessment covered paragliding take-off and landing sites in areas including Pakyong, Thumki Dara and Rorathang. Officials also reviewed accommodation facilities, including homestays in Chakhung, Soreng district.
A rafting reconnaissance exercise was conducted along the Rangpo-to-Linkhim Tar stretch, with teams examining river conditions, currents, rapids and route suitability. Cycling equipment and associated arrangements were also assessed at the Institute of Himalayan Centre for Adventure and Eco-Tourism (IHCAE).
The preparations underline the importance of technical readiness, trained personnel and emergency arrangements for activities involving mountainous terrain, rivers and aerial sports.
Local Communities Expected to Benefit
Beyond adventure sports, the festival is expected to generate economic opportunities for tourism-related businesses and local communities. Hotels, homestays, restaurants, travel agencies, transport providers, farmers, artisans and small entrepreneurs could benefit from increased visitor activity.
The festival will also highlight local cuisine, agricultural products, handlooms, handicrafts and traditional heritage. Wellness activities, including yoga, Vipassana and AYUSH-based experiences, are also part of the wider tourism programme.
By bringing these offerings together, the government hopes to diversify the state’s tourism economy and encourage visitors to spend more time exploring local destinations.
Tourism officials have emphasised the importance of coordination among government departments, private operators and community organisations. Their participation will be essential to managing visitor services and ensuring that economic benefits reach businesses beyond the main festival venue.
Registration and Visitor Information
The Tourism and Civil Aviation Department opened registration for the festival in October, with an official online portal providing event information and details of available experiences. Adventure relay and other structured packages are being managed through registered travel agencies.
Visitors should check the official festival website for updated activity schedules, package availability, eligibility conditions, safety requirements and booking information before making travel arrangements. Individual activities may be subject to weather conditions and operational assessments.
With preparations progressing and the November dates approaching, the festival is expected to provide a significant platform for promoting Sikkim’s adventure tourism potential.
The week-long event represents an opportunity for Sikkim to combine outdoor recreation, cultural experiences and community participation in a single tourism initiative. If successfully organised, it could strengthen the state’s profile among domestic and international travellers while supporting local livelihoods and encouraging more sustainable, geographically diverse tourism.
