Joi Barua Teleportation has taken an unusual route from quantum physics and space science to global music audiences, with the Assamese version of the sci-fi track released worldwide on October 2, ahead of World Space Week 2026. The song was recorded with the 70-piece Royal Philharmonic Orchestra at Abbey Road Studios in London and draws inspiration from quantum entanglement, cosmic distances and human connection.

A global project with an Assamese voice

The release brings together artists and ideas from several countries. The track was conceived and written by Dr Susan Lim, whose work connects surgery, artificial intelligence and quantum philosophy. Harvard neurology fellow Christina Teenz Tan contributed co-lyrics, while Assam-born singer-composer Joi Barua collaborated with French composer and orchestrator Manu Martin on the music.

Joi Barua Teleportation is being released in two editions. British vocalist Tom Ball performs the international version, while Barua provides vocals for the Indian and subcontinental edition. The Assamese release is being distributed globally by UK-based Signum Records, giving the regional-language version an international platform.

The project also has a strong Assamese creative connection beyond Barua’s vocals. Contemporary artist Samudra Kajal Saikia, also from Assam, created the conceptual artwork and visual world for the single.

From quantum physics to music

At the centre of Joi Barua Teleportation is the idea of quantum entanglement. In simple terms, quantum entanglement describes a relationship between particles that can remain correlated even when they are separated by enormous distances.

The song uses that scientific idea as a foundation for exploring human connection, space travel and the mystery of communication across distance. Rather than presenting physics as a technical subject, the project translates scientific concepts into an orchestral and cinematic musical narrative.

Susan Lim said the track grew from her interest in the way fundamental laws of physics can mirror human experiences. The production therefore combines scientific themes with emotion, creating a bridge between abstract concepts and accessible musical storytelling.

The song’s journey also predates the latest release. An earlier version was created in 2019 with the London Symphony Orchestra and vocalist Matthieu Eymard. The work was later reimagined by Manu Martin, who expanded the arrangement, added a new bridge and developed it into a larger symphonic production.

Abbey Road session adds orchestral scale

One of the defining features of Joi Barua Teleportation is its recording at Abbey Road Studios’ Studio One. The latest production features the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, with around 70 musicians contributing strings, brass and percussion to the expansive arrangement.

For Barua, the Abbey Road recording represented a significant stage in a project that combines music, science and international collaboration. He described hearing the orchestra bring ideas about space, light and propulsion into the score as a landmark moment.

The release has also been timed to coincide with World Space Week, the annual international observance dedicated to space science and technology. The 2026 theme is “Rocket Revolution”, a theme that complements the song’s focus on exploration, cosmic frontiers and humanity’s continuing interest in space.

Connection with NASA’s COSI mission

The project is also linked to NASA’s COSI, or Compton Spectrometer and Imager, a space mission focused on studying high-energy phenomena in the universe. Reports about the release place the song within this broader science-and-space narrative, extending its concept beyond conventional music promotion.

That connection strengthens the project’s central idea: using music to communicate complex scientific themes through sound, imagery and emotion. It also gives the Assamese-language release a distinctive place in an international project built around astronomy, physics and human curiosity.

Joi Barua Teleportation is now available through major streaming platforms, including Spotify, Apple Music, YouTube Music and Amazon Music. Its worldwide Assamese release places Barua’s voice at the centre of a production that moves between Assam, London and the wider scientific imagination, while showing how a regional language can become part of an ambitious global music project.
