Following her involvement in a hit-and-run incident in the Dakshingaon/Kahilipara neighborhood of Guwahati that seriously injured a young employee of the Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC).
Assamese actor Nandini Kashyap is currently the subject of intensive scrutiny. Widespread indignation and demands for rigorous implementation of legal accountability have been triggered by the case.
What Happened
On the night of July 26, 2025, Kashyap allegedly struck Samiul Haque, a 22‑year‑old temporary GMC employee working on streetlight repairs, with her car. Witnesses claim she was driving at over 120 km/h at the time.
Several people followed her vehicle after the collision and confronted her near a residential complex, accusing her of fleeing the scene without providing assistance.
She later voluntarily appeared at Dispur Police Station on the same night and admitted involvement. Police confirmed she was not under the influence of alcohol at the time.
A case has been registered under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, and her vehicle has been seized pending the investigation
Status of the Victim
Haque sustained head injuries, fractures to his arms and legs, and remains in critical condition. Initially treated at Gauhati Medical College Hospital (GMCH), he was later transferred to Apollo Hospitals for advanced care due to his deteriorating condition.
The victim had joined GMC as a temporary employee only hours before the incident, also working part-time as a student
Actor’s Defense & Public Reaction
Kashyap claimed poor visibility and road obstruction by a truck caused the accident and insisted she did not flee—rather, she called the police herself. She has been regularly visiting the police station since the incident.
However, her public statements have not quelled criticism. Eyewitnesses, including a local shopkeeper, charged she hid in a nearby apartment after the accident and avoided assisting the injured victim.
The victim’s family publicly expressed outrage, stating that Kashyap has not reached out or offered assistance. They demand justice regardless of her celebrity status.
