Brie Larson and Iman Vellani, known for their superhero roles in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), took a break from saving the world to enjoy a night at Broadway. The dynamic duo attended the opening night of Monty Python’s Spamalot at the St. James Theatre in New York City.
Marvel Stars’ Night Out
Sharing their delightful evening on Instagram, Larson and Vellani posted pictures with their Spamalot cups, playbills, and the stage in the background. The actresses, who star in the latest Marvel installment, The Marvels, reprising their roles as Captain Marvel and Ms. Marvel, seemed to have a blast at the comedic Broadway show.
The Marvels and Disappointing Box Office
The Marvels, released on Nov. 10, follows the events of the Disney+ series Ms. Marvel, introducing Vellani’s character, Kamala Khan. The movie had a lackluster performance at the box office, earning only $47 million in its opening weekend in the U.S. This marked the lowest debut for any Marvel film since 2008’s The Incredible Hulk.
While The Marvels’ predecessor, Captain Marvel, soared with a $153 million opening weekend in 2019, the sequel faced challenges. However, Vellani expressed her indifference to box office numbers, emphasizing that it’s beyond her control and jokingly stating, “That’s for Bob Iger.”
In an interview with Yahoo Entertainment, she clarified that the movie’s financial success “has nothing to do with” her, leaving the business side to Disney’s CEO Bob Iger. Despite the box office figures, Brie Larson and Iman Vellani continue to shine as Marvel’s formidable on-screen superheroes.
