International Music Summit will connect Meghalaya artists with global music professionals ahead of Shillong’s Cherry Blossom Festival on November 20–21.

International Music Summit will bring global music industry professionals to Shillong on November 19, a day before the 2026 Shillong Cherry Blossom Festival begins. Organised with India International Music Week, the gathering aims to connect Meghalaya’s musicians with international promoters, record labels, booking agents and other industry representatives.

The one-day programme will feature panel discussions, workshops and interactions with artists associated with the Meghalaya Grassroots Music Project (MGMP). It will be open to musicians from across the state, giving local performers a chance to learn about the music business and build professional connections.

International Music Summit puts local talent in focus

The International Music Summit is designed to connect Meghalaya’s music community with professionals working across the global industry. Festival promoters, record label representatives, booking agents and other music professionals are expected to participate.

Through discussions and workshops, participants can explore how the music industry works beyond live performances. Sessions are expected to offer insight into artist development, booking opportunities, promotion and networking. Organisers have not yet published a full session-by-session schedule.

Artists associated with MGMP will interact with visiting professionals. This links a state-level effort to nurture grassroots musicians with a wider network of industry contacts.

The International Music Summit will be open to all musicians and artists from Meghalaya, not only those already connected with the grassroots project. This wider access could bring performers from different genres and career stages into the discussion.

A platform beyond the festival stage

Shillong has a long association with contemporary music, particularly rock, and has nurtured performers with audiences across the Northeast and beyond. However, talent alone does not always provide access to labels, promoters, management or international touring opportunities.

The International Music Summit seeks to address part of that gap by bringing industry decision-makers and local musicians together. Workshops can help artists understand professional expectations, while direct conversations may create opportunities for collaboration.

Such outcomes are not automatic. They will depend on whether connections made during the event lead to follow-up discussions, bookings, partnerships or practical support. Even so, the International Music Summit creates an opportunity for local performers to engage with people working across the music business.

2026 festival to celebrate generations of music

The main Shillong Cherry Blossom Festival is scheduled for November 20 and 21. The 2026 edition carries the theme “Year of Generations” and will bring together international, Indian and regional performers across musical styles.

Announced international acts include American rapper Nelly, singer Khalid, rapper Swae Lee, pop-rock band Boys Like Girls and electronic music duo Galantis. Other names reported in the line-up include Indian singer Darshan Raval, British singer Elliot James Reay and electronic act ALT EGO.

The two-day format aims to appeal to audiences across age groups, combining familiar hits with contemporary pop, rock and electronic music. The International Music Summit on November 19 will add an industry-focused opening before the concerts begin.

Fashion, fan experiences and other attractions

The 2026 programme will introduce Cherry Blossom FIT CHECK, a fashion and self-expression competition with a total cash prize of Rs 20 lakh. Participants can enter online or at the venue, with winners due to be announced on the main stage.

Organisers have also announced a Red Bull Fan Zone, mixed martial arts, arm-wrestling, cosplay and lifestyle activities. These additions broaden the event beyond its concert line-up and offer visitors more ways to participate.

The festival received the Music Festival of the Year award at EEMAX Global in 2025. Festival producer Rockski EMG credited the Meghalaya government’s support with helping the event grow as a music and tourism platform. Organisers say it has generated opportunities for local artists, hospitality businesses and entrepreneurs by attracting visitors.

Shillong looks to turn attention into opportunity

The International Music Summit gives the 2026 festival a wider purpose by placing local musicians alongside global professionals who shape live music and artist careers. Its value will depend not only on attendance, but on whether conversations produce lasting links and new opportunities.

As Shillong prepares to welcome performers and visitors in November, the summit offers Meghalaya’s artists a chance to make industry contacts at home. Alongside concerts and cultural activities, this focus on local talent could become an important part of the festival’s next chapter.
