1,015 litres of illicit liquor seized in Assam's Dima Hasao, two detained

Police in Assam’s Dima Hasao district seized around 1,015 litres of illicit Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) during a checking operation and detained two people in connection with the consignment, officials said.

The liquor, estimated to be worth approximately Rs 4.94 lakh, was recovered on September 29 after police received specific information about the transportation of an illicit liquor consignment towards Maibang.

Police Intensify Checking in Langting and Maibang

Following the information, police intensified naka checking operations in the Langting and Maibang areas of Dima Hasao district.

During the operation, personnel intercepted a Tata Yodha vehicle at Choto Lalbong under Langting Police Station. The vehicle was subsequently searched as part of the checking operation.

Police said the action was based on information regarding the suspected transportation of illicit liquor towards Maibang.

5,148 Bottles and Cans Recovered

A search of the vehicle resulted in the recovery of 5,148 bottles and cans containing approximately 1,015 litres of IMFL.

According to officials, the liquor was allegedly concealed underneath cattle feed inside the vehicle. Police also seized 13 plastic bags containing cattle feed along with the vehicle.

The recovered liquor has been valued at around Rs 4.94 lakh.

Vehicle and Mobile Phones Seized

Apart from the liquor, police seized the Tata Yodha vehicle allegedly being used to transport the consignment.

Two mobile phones were also recovered during the operation. Investigators may examine the seized material as part of their efforts to establish the circumstances surrounding the transportation of the liquor.

Police have not publicly disclosed the alleged source of the consignment or its intended destination beyond the information that it was reportedly being transported towards Maibang.

Two People Detained

Two people found in connection with the consignment have been detained by the authorities.

Officials said the two individuals are being dealt with according to law. Their detention is part of the ongoing investigation and does not by itself establish guilt.

Investigators are expected to examine the circumstances of the transportation, including the source of the liquor and whether other people were involved in the movement of the consignment.

Investigation Underway

The seizure has prompted further investigation by the authorities in Dima Hasao. Police are examining the recovered liquor, vehicle, mobile phones and other materials seized during the operation.

The use of naka checking following specific intelligence led to the interception of the vehicle at Choto Lalbong. Authorities are now expected to establish the full chain behind the consignment and determine whether further action is required.

The operation comes as enforcement agencies continue checking routes in the district to prevent the transportation of illicit liquor. Further details are expected as the investigation progresses.
