Amaravati is set to become home to India’s first dedicated Quantum and Artificial Intelligence (AI) University campus, as the Andhra Pradesh government approved the establishment of a specialised campus by the National Institute of Electronics and Information Technology (NIELIT) under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY).
The proposed institution is being positioned as a major step towards building India’s deep-tech talent and research ecosystem, with a focus on quantum technologies, artificial intelligence, semiconductors and other emerging fields.

Rs 730.7 Crore Campus to Come Up in Amaravati
The dedicated Quantum and AI campus will be developed across 8.5 acres in Amaravati, with an estimated investment of Rs 730.7 crore over five years.
The project is proposed to be fully funded through grant-in-aid from the Government of India through MeitY.
The initiative is being developed by NIELIT, a MeitY institution that has deemed-to-be university status. The Amaravati campus will operate as a specialised academic and research hub focused on frontier technologies.

The project is expected to train approximately 8,250 learners over five years, including around 1,650 students through formal degree programmes and 6,600 through skilling and certification courses.

One of the most significant components of the proposed campus will be its Quantum Research, Innovation and Incubation Block.
The facility is expected to provide infrastructure for quantum computing and communication, quantum photonics, quantum security, cryogenic systems and high-performance computing.
Plans also include cleanroom and nano-fabrication facilities, semiconductor technology infrastructure, chip-design facilities and data centres.
The research infrastructure is intended to help students and researchers move beyond theoretical learning and work on practical technology development.

The proposed university will not be limited to conventional academic programmes.
