Arunachal Pradesh Governor Om Prakash Mathur has urged private educational institutions across the state to uphold high standards of teaching, transparency, and accountability. Speaking during a recent education review meeting at Raj Bhavan, Itanagar, he emphasized that education should not become a profit-driven activity but a mission to shape responsible citizens and future leaders.
The Governor noted that private institutions have played a vital role in bridging the educational gap in Arunachal Pradesh. However, he expressed concern over the growing commercialization of education. He said that while the private sector has contributed immensely to improving access to education, the essence of learning should not be lost in pursuit of financial gains. According to him, institutions must focus on nurturing values, discipline, and competence among students rather than merely increasing enrollments or infrastructure.

Governor calls for holistic educational standards
Om Prakash Mathur stressed that the true measure of an institution’s success lies in the overall development of its students. He urged private school and college administrators to introduce balanced curricula that combine academics, moral education, and extracurricular activities. He said that modern education should promote creativity, communication skills, and a sense of responsibility toward society.
He highlighted that many private schools in Arunachal Pradesh have performed well academically but still need to work on improving teacher training and infrastructure quality. The Governor also called for regular teacher assessments to ensure that educators maintain a high level of competence. He suggested that schools and colleges should invest in continuous professional development programs to help teachers keep up with new teaching techniques and technological advancements.
Mathur reminded educational boards and management committees that every institution must operate transparently. He encouraged them to maintain clear records of financial transactions and ensure accountability to parents, students, and government authorities. He also asked district education officers to conduct periodic inspections to evaluate the functioning of private schools and colleges.
Focus on inclusivity and regional development
The Governor emphasized the need for inclusivity in education. He said that private institutions should provide opportunities to students from remote and economically weaker sections. He suggested that schools and colleges set aside scholarships and fee concessions for underprivileged students to ensure equitable access to quality education across the state.
Om Prakash Mathur also mentioned the importance of integrating local history, culture, and traditional knowledge into school curricula. He said that education should connect young people with their roots and promote pride in Arunachal Pradesh’s diverse heritage. He proposed that local languages and cultural studies be encouraged to preserve the state’s identity and traditions.
He added that education in Arunachal Pradesh must align with the national education policy but also reflect regional aspirations. He appreciated the state government’s recent steps to improve digital education and teacher training but insisted that private institutions must complement these efforts by improving their own systems and teaching standards.
Technology and accountability as key drivers
Governor Mathur underscored the role of technology in transforming education. He encouraged institutions to adopt smart classrooms, digital libraries, and online learning tools to make education more engaging and accessible. He said that modern tools should supplement teaching and not replace the personal touch that teachers bring to classrooms.
To ensure transparency, he advised institutions to create open communication channels between parents, teachers, and management. He suggested that parent-teacher meetings and feedback systems should be held regularly to maintain accountability and build trust.
He also urged educational boards to create a framework for ranking private schools based on teaching quality, student satisfaction, and social contribution. This, he said, would encourage healthy competition and help institutions focus on genuine improvement rather than only commercial success.
A collective vision for the future
The Governor praised several private institutions in Arunachal Pradesh that have maintained exemplary academic and ethical standards. He said that such institutions serve as role models and must share best practices with others. He appealed to the private sector, civil society, and government to work together toward building an education system that fosters both intellectual and moral growth.
Mathur reiterated that accountability, inclusiveness, and innovation must go hand in hand. He said that only through collective effort can Arunachal Pradesh emerge as an education hub in the Northeast. He also assured that the Raj Bhavan would continue supporting initiatives that strengthen the education system and improve the quality of learning outcomes.
Concluding his address, the Governor reminded everyone that education is not merely about degrees or grades but about preparing young minds for a lifetime of learning and service. He urged private institutions to uphold ethics, nurture talent, and instill values that will empower the youth to lead the state and the nation with integrity and vision.
