Towards combating rising digital fraud, the Baksa district police in Assam arrested two youths involved in a cybercrime case. The arrests were made by the Mushalpur police on Friday, July 19, 2025.
The accused have been identified as Manas Jyoti Deka and Himangshu Das. They were allegedly operating an online scam that targeted unsuspecting individuals across the state.
Swift Police Action Leads to Arrest
The Mushalpur police acted on a specific complaint lodged by a local resident. The complainant claimed he had been duped of a considerable sum through an online money-luring scheme.
Following this, police traced the digital trail and tracked down the two accused. Their arrest marks a breakthrough in a case that had seen multiple similar complaints over the last few months.
Police sources said the duo used social media platforms and fake payment links to trick people.
They also used multiple SIM cards and digital wallets to cover their tracks.

The Mushalpur Police Station has registered an FIR under various sections of the Information Technology Act and Indian Penal Code, including Sections 419 and 420 (cheating and dishonesty). Interrogation of the arrested youths is ongoing.
Initial leads suggest that the two may have links with similar cybercrime cells operating in neighboring districts. If confirmed, this could expand the scope of the probe significantly. An officer from Baksa police headquarters said more arrests may follow.
