Dudhnoi firing incident sparks major breakthrough with two arrests

Dudhnoi firing incident in Assam’s Goalpara district has led to the arrest of two men after a local businessman was shot and injured in Damra. Police arrested Nayab Ali and Sabul Islam on August 25 following sustained questioning as investigators examined the circumstances behind the attack.

The shooting took place in the Damra area of Dudhnoi on the evening of August 23. According to reports, the businessman was attacked outside his business establishment after returning from the local market. The incident prompted police to launch an investigation and search for those responsible.

Businessman injured in Damra shooting

The victim, identified in reports as Sayed Ali or Abu Saiyed, runs a scrap business in Damra and is originally from Baghbar Char in Assam’s Barpeta district. He had been living in the Damra area for business purposes.

According to preliminary reports, the businessman was returning from Damra market in an e-rickshaw with an associate. When they stopped near his business establishment to unload goods, two motorcycle-borne assailants allegedly approached from the Damra side and opened fire. The attackers reportedly fled towards Meghalaya after the shooting.

Reports said four rounds were fired during the attack. Three bullets reportedly struck the businessman in the chest and abdomen, leaving him seriously injured. He was immediately taken to a hospital in Goalpara for treatment. Earlier reports said his condition was not immediately available.

The Dudhnoi firing incident occurred close to the Assam-Meghalaya border, adding urgency to the police investigation as the suspected attackers were reported to have escaped towards Meghalaya.

Police arrest two suspects

Police initially detained and questioned two men linked to the incident before formally arresting them. Nayab Ali and Sabul Islam were subjected to extensive questioning as investigators attempted to establish the sequence of events and identify those behind the attack.

According to police-related reports, investigators noticed inconsistencies in the accounts provided during the initial stage of the probe. Police subsequently examined mobile phone records, location information and other digital evidence.

Sabul Islam was reportedly arrested in Goalpara on Monday night while he was at the hospital with his injured brother. Ali was arrested soon afterwards. Investigators said they had gathered evidence that prompted further questioning of the two men.

Probe examines alleged conspiracy

The investigation has now shifted towards determining whether the shooting was part of a planned attack. Police suspect that Sabul Islam may have been involved in an alleged conspiracy targeting his elder brother and may have sought control of the family’s scrap business. The allegation remains part of the ongoing investigation and has not been established by a court.

Police are also investigating whether hired shooters were involved. The suspected shooters have not yet been arrested, and efforts are continuing to trace them and recover the firearm allegedly used in the attack.

The Dudhnoi firing incident has therefore widened from an initial shooting investigation into a suspected conspiracy case, with investigators examining possible family and business-related motives.

Investigation continues in Goalpara

The arrests are an important development in the Dudhnoi firing incident, but several questions remain unanswered. Police are expected to question the arrested men further to establish the alleged roles of each suspect and determine who carried out the shooting.

Investigators are also working to establish the exact sequence of events before and after the attack. Digital evidence, including call records and location data, is expected to remain important as police attempt to identify possible links between the arrested men and the suspected shooters.

The accused are expected to be produced before a court, with police likely to seek custody for further interrogation. Authorities are also continuing efforts to locate the remaining suspects and recover the weapon used in the attack.

The Dudhnoi firing incident has raised concern in the Damra area after a businessman was seriously injured in broad daylight. With two arrests already made, the investigation will now focus on establishing the full motive, identifying the alleged shooters and determining whether others were involved in the attack. Police action in the coming days is expected to provide further clarity on the case.
