Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma announced the milestone during his visit to Pynursla, where he inaugurated a new mini secretariat and a circuit house. He said the growth in MGNREGS spending demonstrates Meghalaya’s progress in empowering rural communities through consistent policy support and effective execution.
Sangma highlighted that the increased utilisation showcases the government’s ability to ensure transparency and efficiency in scheme implementation. “Our goal is to make every rupee spent under MGNREGS contribute to sustainable development in rural areas,” he said.

CM Inaugurates Mini Secretariat and Circuit House
During his visit, Chief Minister Sangma inaugurated two key infrastructure projects — the Pynursla Mini Secretariat and a newly built circuit house. Both facilities aim to improve administrative efficiency and promote better coordination among departments in the region.
The mini secretariat will serve as a central hub for government offices, allowing residents of Pynursla and nearby areas to access public services more easily. The CM noted that this initiative would reduce the need for citizens to travel long distances to Shillong for official work.
The circuit house, meanwhile, will accommodate government officials, guests, and visiting dignitaries. It is designed to support administrative activities and encourage more official visits to the region. Sangma said the government’s focus on infrastructure aims to strengthen local governance and improve public service delivery.
Strengthening Rural Development Through MGNREGS
