The MZP has approached the Governor of Mizoram seeking intervention in the matter concerning seven engineering seats. The organisation has raised the issue with the aim of ensuring that the seats are dealt with appropriately and that eligible students do not lose an important opportunity to pursue technical education.
Engineering education remains a major aspiration for students in Mizoram, where opportunities for professional and technical courses are comparatively limited. The two-day camp, held on April 17 and 18, brought together 20 students from six schools. Activities included a Drug Awareness Campaign, pipe band display, camping, music, running, rappelling, self-cooking and basketball.
The campaign was designed to combine awareness with outdoor activities and leadership-building exercises. MZP president Dr C Lalremruata urged participating students to stay away from drugs and act as ambassadors of the message in their schools and communities.
The involvement of the Assam Rifles also added a community outreach element to the programme. Officials encouraged students to concentrate on their education and prepare themselves to contribute to Mizoram’s future.
Focus on students and wider social concerns
The twin initiatives reflect the broader role of the MZP in raising student-related concerns in Mizoram. The organisation has previously been involved in campaigns on education, recruitment and public-interest issues.
Earlier this month, the Mizo Zirlai Pawl also protested outside the Mizoram Public Service Commission over recruitment-related concerns. The agitation led the commission to postpone several recruitment activities, while the organisation called for changes relating to its One-Time Registration system, application scrutiny and staffing.
