The Tripura Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) on Sunday announced a massive statewide public outreach campaign set to kick off on June 22. The campaign is part of a larger national movement initiated by the All India Congress Committee (AICC) to counter the BJP-led government’s policies across India.
Tripura Congress leaders said the drive will focus on “exposing the misgovernance and failures” of the ruling BJP in the state and centre, especially in areas such as unemployment, inflation, education, healthcare, and alleged suppression of democratic rights.
Part of National Initiative
The campaign in Tripura is aligned with the Congress’s nationwide “Jawab Do” movement. Senior party functionaries confirmed that the state-level outreach will include village sabhas, padyatras, door-to-door visits, and public meetings.
“This is not just an electoral campaign. It is a people’s movement against injustice, unemployment, and inflation,” said TPCC president Ashish Kumar Saha during a press conference in Agartala.
Saha accused the BJP government of pushing the state into an economic and democratic crisis. He said that Tripura, once known for peace and development under Congress rule, is now plagued by lawlessness and joblessness.
Key Issues to be Highlighted
Tripura Congress leaders outlined the primary focus areas of their campaign. These include:
- Rising youth unemployment in both urban and rural areas.
- Delayed MGNREGA payments and irregular job opportunities.
- Privatization of education and healthcare services.
- Political violence and breakdown of law and order.
- Decline in democratic institutions and alleged misuse of police.
TPCC vice president Tapas Dey said, “From teachers to tribal communities, every section of society has faced neglect under BJP rule. Our campaign will take these voices to the people.”
Schedule and Route
The campaign will begin on June 22 from Dharmanagar in North Tripura and gradually cover all 60 assembly constituencies over the next two months. Party workers and leaders will walk, interact, and hold open dialogues with the public.
A mobile van with audio-visual presentations on government failures will accompany the campaign. Street corner meetings and youth interaction events will also be organized.
Saha confirmed that senior AICC leaders, including those from neighboring states, will visit Tripura to support the campaign at key locations.
Push for Lok Sabha Preparations
The campaign is seen as a build-up to the 2026 Tripura Assembly elections and 2029 Lok Sabha polls. Congress leaders have intensified grassroots mobilization efforts since early 2025.
Political analysts believe that this, anti-BJP campaign could help the Congress reconnect with voters, especially in tribal areas where its influence has declined over the years.
Saha stated that Congress will work toward uniting all secular and democratic forces in Tripura to challenge the BJP’s dominance.
BJP Dismisses Congress Claims
Reacting to the Congress announcement, BJP Tripura spokesperson Subrata Chakraborty dismissed the campaign as a “desperate PR stunt.”
“Congress has lost public trust long ago. The people of Tripura voted for development, not dynastic politics. We welcome healthy opposition but reject false propaganda,” Chakraborty said.
Previous Congress Campaigns in Tripura
In 2022 and 2023, the Tripura Congress had launched similar campaigns like “Bharat Jodo Yatra” and “Tripura Bachao,” but they met with limited success.
This time, the party claims to have strengthened its booth-level teams and alliance discussions are underway with regional parties such as Tipra Motha and CPI(M).
