Tripura Durga Puja security has been significantly strengthened for the 2026 festive season, with more than 10,000 police and security personnel expected to be deployed across the state as 3,047 celebrations are scheduled. The arrangements aim to maintain law and order, manage large crowds and ensure the safety of devotees visiting pandals across urban and rural areas.
According to the latest figures released by the police department as of 4 pm on October 16, Tripura has recorded an increase in the number of Durga Puja celebrations compared with the previous year. Authorities have established police assistance booths across the state to help visitors and improve security during one of the region’s most important annual festivals.
Tripura Durga Puja Security Strengthened Across the State
The deployment plan covers police personnel and members of the Tripura State Rifles (TSR), with security arrangements designed to address the expected rush at puja pandals, markets and other crowded public spaces.
The latest figures show that 3,047 pujas are scheduled across Tripura in 2026, compared with 2,997 recorded in 2025. The increase highlights the scale of preparations required to manage celebrations across the state.
Police authorities are focusing on crowd management, public assistance and the prevention of untoward incidents. The deployment is also intended to help devotees move safely between pandals and allow families to participate in the festivities without unnecessary disruption.
In-charge Director General of Police G S Rao had earlier outlined the state’s security preparations at a press conference at the police headquarters in Agartala. Officials indicated that the force would be strengthened in line with the requirements of the festival.
3,047 Durga Puja Celebrations Planned Across Tripura
The latest data indicates that Durga Puja celebrations remain widespread across Tripura, with rural locations accounting for the larger share of events.
Of the 3,047 celebrations scheduled this year, 2,076 will take place in rural areas, while 971 are planned in urban locations. This distribution means that security arrangements must cover both major towns and smaller communities throughout the state.
West Tripura has recorded the highest number of celebrations, with 775 pujas planned, including 543 in urban areas and 232 in rural areas. The district recorded 772 celebrations in 2025.
Sepahijala ranks second with 436 pujas, followed by Khowai with 408 and Gomati with 363. South Tripura has reported 305 celebrations, while North Tripura accounts for 271. Dhalai has recorded 268 pujas, and Unakoti has 221.
These figures underline the need for coordinated deployment across districts, particularly in areas where several pandals may attract large gatherings at the same time.
Police Assistance Booths to Help Devotees
As part of the wider Tripura Durga Puja security arrangements, police authorities have established 181 Police Assistance Booths across the state’s eight districts. The booths are intended to provide public assistance, support visitors and improve coordination during the festive period.
West Tripura will have the highest number of assistance booths, with 40, followed by Dhalai with 30 and Sepahijala with 27. Khowai will have 19 booths, while Unakoti and South Tripura will have 18 each. North Tripura has 16, and Gomati has 13.
The assistance points are expected to help people seek police support when required and provide accessible locations for reporting concerns during crowded celebrations.
Traffic Management and Crowd Safety Remain Priorities
Traffic regulation is another important part of the preparations, particularly in Agartala, where numerous puja pandals and busy shopping areas are expected to attract visitors.
Police have previously announced plans for additional patrols, surveillance cameras and watchtowers to strengthen monitoring at key locations. Earlier preparations also included arrangements for mobile patrol vehicles and increased deployment of women police personnel to support public safety.
Authorities have also indicated that traffic restrictions would be imposed at selected locations in Agartala during peak hours, with provisions for emergency movement. Visitors travelling by road, rail or air have been advised to plan their journeys carefully to avoid delays during the festive rush.
Puja committees have also been asked to coordinate with police and arrange volunteers at their respective pandals. Cooperation between organisers, security personnel and the public is expected to play an important role in maintaining order.
Focus on Safe and Peaceful Festivities
With more than 3,000 celebrations scheduled across the state, Tripura’s police administration faces the task of ensuring security across a wide network of festival venues. The deployment of personnel, establishment of assistance booths and district-level coordination are intended to make the celebrations safer and more accessible.
As devotees prepare to visit pandals with family and friends, authorities will need to maintain vigilance while ensuring that traffic and public movement remain manageable. Effective implementation of the security plan, along with cooperation from puja organisers and visitors, will be essential to ensuring that Durga Puja 2026 passes peacefully across Tripura.
