Women voters outnumbered men in the recently concluded Tripura Village Committee polls under the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC). The election also recorded strong voter participation, with the final turnout reaching 81.29 per cent.

State Election Commissioner P K Chakraborty released the final figures on October 6. The data showed higher participation among women across the tribal council areas.

Women Voters Record Higher Participation

According to the State Election Commission, 2,70,897 women cast their votes during the elections. In comparison, 2,62,911 men exercised their franchise.

Women therefore outnumbered men by nearly 8,000 voters. The figures highlight significant participation by women in the grassroots electoral process.

The strong turnout also reflects considerable voter engagement in the TTAADC areas.

Overall Turnout Reaches 81.29 Per Cent

A total of 5,33,808 voters cast their ballots at polling stations. Another 6,628 voters exercised their franchise through Election Duty Votes.

Together, the total number of votes polled reached 5,40,436. The final voter turnout stood at 81.29 per cent.

South Tripura recorded the highest district-wise turnout at 86.08 per cent. West Tripura recorded the lowest turnout at 72.64 per cent.

Voting Held Across TTAADC Areas

The elections covered Village Committees under the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council. Voting took place on September 28.

The election process covered hundreds of Village Committees and involved thousands of candidates. The State Election Commission also made arrangements for election officials and security personnel to cast their votes.

Counting began on October 5 at 44 counting locations across 44 Rural Development blocks. Most centres completed the process by the evening, while counting at Manu continued into the early hours of October 6.

Tipra Motha Leads Seat Tally

The final results placed the Tipra Motha Party at the top of the seat tally. The party won 3,428 seats and secured 46.76 per cent of the vote share.

The BJP won 859 seats with a vote share of 28 per cent. The Indigenous People’s Front of Tripura secured 33 seats.

Independent candidates won 173 seats, while the CPI(M) secured 87 seats. The Congress won 14 seats, and three seats remained vacant.

Tipra Motha Wins Majority in 457 Committees

At the Village Committee level, Tipra Motha emerged as the majority party in 457 committees.

The BJP secured a majority in 94 Village Committees. The CPI(M) and IPFT each secured majorities in two committees.

Independent candidates emerged as the majority in 31 committees. These committees either had no clear party majority or saw unaffiliated candidates dominate.

Strong Participation Across Tribal Areas

The high turnout has highlighted the level of public participation in the local elections. Women played a particularly significant role in the voting process.

The participation figures also provide an indication of the importance voters placed on grassroots representation in the TTAADC areas.

The election involved a large number of voters across different districts and rural development blocks.

Security Arrangements During Counting

The State Election Commission maintained extensive security arrangements during the counting process. Central security forces, Tripura Police and Tripura State Rifles worked together at counting centres.

The commission said no security-related incident or disruption occurred inside the counting halls.

Some minor tensions occurred before counting in Salema, Tulasikhar and Kathalia. Police and local administration intervened to bring the situations under control.

Women Make Strong Mark in Local Elections

The higher number of women voters marks one of the notable features of the Tripura Village Committee elections. Their participation exceeded that of male voters despite the overall electorate covering a large number of rural and tribal communities.

The figures underline the role women continue to play in local democratic processes.

With the final results now declared, the election has concluded with strong overall participation and a clear seat advantage for Tipra Motha.

The 81.29 per cent turnout and higher participation by women stand out as key features of the 2026 Village Committee elections in Tripura.
