West Bengal Hikes Pay for Contractual School Staff from October 1

The West Bengal government has increased the monthly remuneration of contractual school education employees, including para-teachers, special educators and Shiksha Bandhu. The revised pay structure will come into effect from October 1, 2026.

The School Education Department issued the notification on September 30 following approval from the state government. The revision covers employees working under the Paschim Banga Samagra Shiksha Mission (PBSSM), Paschim Banga Rajya Shishu Shiksha Mission (PBRSSM), School Education Directorate and PM POSHAN programme.

Several categories will receive a monthly increase of ₹5,000, while some management-level employees will receive hikes of ₹7,000 or ₹10,000.

Para-Teachers to Receive ₹5,000 Monthly Hike

The monthly remuneration of primary-level para-teachers has increased from ₹11,941 to ₹16,941.

For upper-primary para-teachers, the revised monthly remuneration will be ₹20,523, up from ₹15,523.

The revision provides a uniform increase of ₹5,000 for both categories.

The move will benefit contractual teachers working under the state’s school education programmes.

Shiksha Bandhu and Special Educators Included

The government has also revised the remuneration of Shiksha Bandhu and special teachers.

Shiksha Bandhu will now receive ₹14,954 per month, compared with the earlier amount of ₹9,954.

The monthly remuneration of special teachers has increased from ₹14,924 to ₹19,924.

Assistant and assistant teachers working at Shishu Shiksha Kendras under PBRSSM will also receive ₹16,941 per month, up from ₹11,941.

Management Staff to Get Higher Increments

The revised structure also covers management staff under the Paschim Banga Samagra Shiksha Mission.

The increase will depend on their existing monthly remuneration.

Employees receiving up to ₹25,000 will get an additional ₹5,000.

Those earning above ₹25,000 and up to ₹40,000 will receive a ₹7,000 increase.

Employees earning above ₹40,000 and up to ₹55,000 will receive an additional ₹10,000.

The revised structure aims to provide higher remuneration across different management-level positions.

Academic Supervisors and District Officials Benefit

The government has revised the monthly remuneration of several other contractual positions.

Academic supervisors will now receive ₹18,781, compared with ₹13,781 earlier.

District programme managers will receive ₹25,692, up from ₹19,692.

The remuneration of PA-cum-DEO personnel under PBRSSM has increased from ₹14,774 to ₹19,774.

Heads of Madhyamik Shiksha Kendras will receive ₹22,178 per month, while instructors and assistant instructors will receive ₹20,523.

Higher Secondary Contractual Teachers Included

Contractual teachers appointed for selected subjects at the higher secondary level under the School Education Directorate will also benefit.

Their monthly remuneration has increased from ₹15,218 to ₹20,218.

The revision also covers education volunteers working under the PM POSHAN programme.

Their monthly remuneration will rise from ₹11,000 to ₹16,000.

Revised Pay Effective from October 1

The state government approved the remuneration revision following the Cabinet’s September 7 decision.

The Governor subsequently approved the revised pay structure.

The School Education Department’s September 30 notification formally communicated the changes to the concerned departments and implementing agencies.

The revised rates will apply from October 1, 2026.

The decision provides a pay increase across several categories of contractual education workers, including teaching, administrative and programme-support personnel.
