Tripura Assembly Monsoon Session Gets Key Three-Day Schedule

Tripura Assembly monsoon session will begin on August 27 and continue with sittings on August 28 and August 31, giving lawmakers three days to raise public issues and take up government business. The schedule was finalised by the Business Advisory Committee (BAC) of the Tripura Legislative Assembly at a meeting chaired by Speaker Rampada Jamatia on Friday, August 21.

The upcoming sitting will be the 10th session of the 13th Tripura Legislative Assembly. The latest schedule gives the House three working days, with proceedings set to begin at 11 am each day. The decision to start on a Thursday was also aimed at avoiding a weekend interruption that could affect the continuity of legislative business.

Three days of legislative business

The Tripura Assembly monsoon session is scheduled for August 27, 28 and 31. Although the session formally begins on August 27, there will be no sitting over the weekend, with lawmakers returning to the House on Monday, August 31. The arrangement was finalised after the BAC reviewed the proposed business of the Assembly.

The three-day schedule is significant because the Assembly’s previous sitting was comparatively brief. The ninth session of the 13th Assembly was held for only one day on April 30. That sitting focused on measures concerning the constitutional rights of women and issues linked to proposed constitutional amendments, including the 131st Amendment Bill and the Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam.

The longer sitting in August is therefore expected to provide members with more opportunity to question the government, raise constituency-level concerns and discuss matters affecting people across Tripura.

Key issues likely to dominate the session

One of the issues expected to receive attention is the growing debate around smart electricity meters and electricity bills. Recent reports indicate that these matters could come up for discussion during the session, making power supply and billing an important issue for lawmakers.

The final list of government business can still evolve as the session approaches. The Speaker has indicated that no major Bills were currently listed for consideration, while additional legislation could be introduced depending on the government’s requirements and the proceedings of the House.

This leaves room for political and public issues to shape the proceedings once the House begins.

Ease of Doing Business Bill under focus

Earlier reports had indicated that the proposed Tripura Ease of Doing Business Bill, 2026 could be introduced during the session. Preparatory discussions on the legislation have already taken place through a Select Committee of the Assembly.

The proposed legislation is aimed at reducing bureaucratic hurdles, simplifying regulatory procedures and creating a more investor-friendly business environment. Its potential introduction would make economic and administrative reforms an important part of the session’s agenda.

However, reports on August 21 said that no major Bills were currently listed, suggesting that the final legislative programme could be clarified closer to the opening of the House.

Assembly prepares for the session

Preparations for the Tripura Assembly monsoon session have been continuing through meetings of various legislative committees. The official National e-Vidhan portal records recent meetings of the Select Committee, Committee on Government Assurances, Committee on Petitions and Library Committee during July and August.

The official Assembly portal also lists the 13th Tripura Legislative Assembly’s 10th session in its session calendar, reflecting preparations for the August sitting.

For the government, the session will provide an opportunity to explain its policies and respond to questions from legislators. For the opposition and other members, it will offer a platform to highlight public concerns and seek answers on issues affecting the state.

What to expect from the August sitting

The Tripura Assembly monsoon session comes at a time when governance, electricity-related concerns, administrative reforms and economic development are likely to remain important subjects in state politics. The limited three-day schedule means the Assembly will need to manage its time carefully to accommodate legislative business as well as questions and discussions.

With the BAC having finalised the schedule, attention will now turn to the detailed list of business and the issues that members intend to raise. The proceedings could also provide greater clarity on proposed legislation, including the Ease of Doing Business Bill, if the government decides to bring it forward.

As lawmakers prepare to return to the House, the three-day sitting is expected to provide an important forum for debate on Tripura’s current challenges and policy priorities. The August 27 opening will mark the start of a focused legislative session in which public concerns, government accountability and possible reforms are likely to remain at the centre of proceedings.
