Tripura electoral roll revision preparations have gathered pace ahead of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) scheduled to begin on September 5, 2026. The exercise will cover all 60 Assembly constituencies and aims to make the voter list more accurate, updated, inclusive and free of duplicate or ineligible entries. The Election Department has stepped up preparations, while district authorities are also conducting awareness and coordination activities ahead of the formal process.
Preparations begin ahead of September 5
The Election Commission of India has included Tripura in the third phase of its nationwide Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls. The state’s Chief Electoral Officer, Brijesh Pandey, has said the exercise will focus on ensuring that eligible voters remain on the rolls while names of deceased, shifted, duplicate and otherwise ineligible electors are removed through the prescribed process.
The preparatory phase will run from September 5 to September 14. During this period, election officials will undertake training, planning and related arrangements before beginning the door-to-door verification process. The Tripura electoral roll revision will use the existing field machinery, including Booth Level Officers (BLOs), to verify voter information.
Door-to-door verification from September 15
A key stage of the Tripura electoral roll revision will begin on September 15, when BLOs are scheduled to visit households across the state. The house-to-house enumeration and verification process will continue until October 14.
Officials will collect and verify the required information from voters during the visits. Citizens are expected to cooperate with the BLOs and provide the necessary details so that the electoral database can be updated correctly.
According to officials, Tripura has 3,356 polling stations and nearly 28.97 lakh registered electors. The revision will involve 3,356 BLOs and 375 BLO supervisors, giving the exercise a broad administrative reach across the state.
West Tripura intensifies preparations
The latest preparations are particularly visible in West Tripura district. District Election Officer and District Magistrate Dr Vishal Kumar said the SIR exercise in the district will also begin on September 5.
The district administration has outlined a schedule that includes household verification, distribution of forms and subsequent scrutiny of electoral records. Authorities have stressed the need to ensure that no eligible voter is excluded and that ineligible entries are removed according to established procedures.
The West Tripura administration has also been engaging with media representatives to explain the process and promote awareness among residents. The move is intended to improve transparency and encourage public participation during the revision.
Draft voter list due on October 21
The next major milestone in the Tripura electoral roll revision will come on October 21, when the draft electoral roll is scheduled to be published.
The publication of the draft list will allow voters and other stakeholders to examine the entries and raise concerns where necessary. The claims and objections period will remain open from October 21 to November 20.
Electoral Registration Officers and Assistant Electoral Registration Officers will then examine the claims and objections. The disposal process is scheduled to continue until December 19. This stage is important because it gives citizens an opportunity to seek corrections or raise objections regarding entries in the draft roll.
October 1 qualifying date
The Election Department has fixed October 1, 2026, as the qualifying date for the revision. This means citizens who meet the eligibility requirements and turn 18 on or before that date can be considered for inclusion in the electoral roll, subject to the applicable rules and verification process.
The qualifying date is particularly relevant for young voters who are becoming eligible to vote for the first time. The revision is therefore expected to provide an opportunity for eligible new electors to ensure that their names are included.
Final electoral roll scheduled for December 23
The Tripura electoral roll revision is scheduled to reach its final stage with publication of the updated electoral roll on December 23, 2026. By then, officials are expected to have completed verification, considered claims and objections and made necessary corrections.
The exercise comes as part of a wider Election Commission initiative to improve electoral rolls across several states and Union Territories. For Tripura, the emphasis remains on accuracy, inclusion and transparency throughout the process.
