The highly anticipated Indian Premier League (IPL) final between the Gujarat Titans and the Chennai Super Kings faced an unexpected hurdle as heavy rainfall engulfed Ahmedabad on Sunday, causing a delay in the toss. The cricketing extravaganza was marred by the sudden downpour, forcing the ground staff to swiftly cover the pitch with multiple layers of sheets and protect the run-up areas for the fast bowlers.

Initially, it seemed like a passing drizzle that would not disrupt the game significantly, and eager fans filled the stands in large numbers. However, the rain intensified rapidly, accompanied by thunder and lightning, compelling the disappointed spectators to seek shelter and retreat into the stands. As the precipitation continued, large puddles formed near the uncovered center strip, further complicating the situation.

In accordance with the IPL rules, if a match is affected by rain or gets washed out on the scheduled day, it can be rescheduled to the following day, known as the reserve day. The league has specific guidelines in place for such scenarios. A brief note published on the IPL website clarified that in case of rain interruption, the number of overs in the playoff match could be reduced to ensure each side gets the opportunity to bat for at least five overs. The latest possible start time for a five-overs-per-side match is 11:56 pm, with a scheduled finish at 12:50 pm. If the game commences by 9:40 pm, no overs will be lost.

However, if both the original and reserve days are affected by unfavorable weather conditions, the team that secured the top position after the league round would be declared the winner. In this case, the defending champions, the Gujarat Titans, held the coveted first place on the points table, having emerged victorious in 10 out of 14 matches, accumulating a total of 20 points. The Chennai Super Kings, finishing in second place with 17 points, closely followed them.

Cricket enthusiasts and supporters of both teams now await updates from the IPL governing body regarding the scheduling and potential resumption of the final. As the rain clouds hover over Ahmedabad, fans can only hope that the weather gods relent, allowing the IPL final to take place as scheduled, showcasing the intense battle between the Gujarat Titans and the Chennai Super Kings, who have both displayed remarkable skill and determination throughout the tournament.

In the face of this weather-related uncertainty, cricket fans are left anxiously awaiting the ultimate outcome of the IPL final, which hangs in the balance due to the unrelenting downpour.
