Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha on Wednesday announced a significant step toward economic and tourism development by initiating a collaboration with Patanjali Ayurved. The partnership aims to turn Tripura into a prominent wellness tourism destination while promoting organic farming, Ayurveda, and natural healthcare solutions in the state.
The announcement came during a press briefing held in Agartala, where the CM outlined the state government’s vision for holistic development driven by sustainable practices, indigenous resources, and strategic partnerships.
Strategic Wellness Partnership with Patanjali
Chief Minister Saha highlighted the potential of leveraging Patanjali’s expertise in Ayurveda and wellness to tap into the state’s natural beauty and medicinal flora. “Tripura has rich biodiversity and herbal wealth. With Patanjali’s guidance, we can transform the state into a wellness hub, attracting both domestic and international tourists,” said the CM.
Officials confirmed that initial discussions with Patanjali co-founder Baba Ramdev and his team have been fruitful. The collaboration is expected to cover multiple sectors, including wellness tourism, organic farming, and local employment generation.
Boosting Socio-Economic Growth through Sustainable Initiatives
The proposed Tripura-Patanjali collaboration aligns with the state’s broader vision of sustainable economic growth. Under this plan, Patanjali will assist in developing herbal gardens, Ayurvedic wellness centers, and training institutes for yoga and naturopathy.
The Chief Minister emphasized that the partnership would also promote the cultivation of medicinal plants and herbs among tribal and rural communities. This initiative could provide an alternative source of income to thousands of farmers and help revive traditional knowledge systems.
State officials are preparing a formal proposal to be sent to Patanjali in the coming weeks. The government is also identifying suitable locations for the wellness zones, particularly in Gomati, Sepahijala, and North Tripura districts.
Local Communities at the Heart of the Plan
Tripura’s indigenous and rural communities are expected to be key stakeholders in this plan. “We want to ensure that this is not just a corporate project. The real benefit should reach our local people, including women’s self-help groups and tribal farmers,” said State Tourism Minister Sushanta Chowdhury.
Workshops and awareness drives will be launched across the state to educate locals about the opportunities under the partnership. From farming to hospitality training, the initiative is set to create jobs and foster entrepreneurship.
Tripura as a Model Wellness State
If successful, the Tripura-Patanjali collaboration could place the state on the national wellness tourism map, alongside Kerala and Uttarakhand. With serene landscapes, historical temples, and eco-friendly sites, Tripura already has the foundational elements needed to support the sector.
Tourism department officials are also working on improving accessibility, accommodation, and promotional campaigns to attract wellness travelers. A mobile-friendly digital portal showcasing Tripura’s natural retreats, Ayurvedic programs, and heritage sites is in development.
